A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested on several felony charges after attempting to escape from deputies.

According to the arrest report, Duffy Thomas was arrested in the area of E. Park St. and N. Roop St. by Special Enforcement Team deputies attempting to arrest another individual on a warrant when they spotted a family member of Thomas’s.

The Eldorado Forest Interpretative Association offers free guided interpretative hikes in and around the Carson Pass area throughout August and September.

These hikes vary from 45 minutes long like our historical Devil's Ladder hike to three hours long like our water color painting hikes.

On June 28, 2023, Lyon County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to 4 Farrell Lane in Yerington, Nevada for a welfare check request on 56 year old Sir Charles Lester. Friends and family reported that they had not had contact with Sir Charles in almost a week, which was very unlike Sir Charles.

It was a record-setting beginning for the school year in Carson City yesterday where a total of 71 new educators reported to the tech center at Carson High for new teacher orientation for the Carson City School District.

The number was more than twice the regular attendance of previous years. The teachers received welcome packets, badges, laptops and other necessary materials and will receive training over the next several days leading up to the first day of school Monday, August 14.

According to the California Nevada River Forecast Center, the Walker River in Yerington and Mason Valley has maintained at or below action stage for over two weeks. Based on the decreasing river forecasts, Lyon County is shifting focus toward recovery and clean up from the recent flood events.

A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3500 block of Highway 50 E. following a fight between himself and his brother that resulted in several felony charges.

The Nevada Humane Society will be on scene at Carson City Toyota Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a gaggle of puppies in tow.

“Carson City Toyota has been a long time supporter of Nevada Humane Society, and what better way to say thank you than puppies?” Katie Cole, Events Coordinator for NHS said.

The Reno Kennel Club, Inc., was first incorporated in 1938 and the annual Reno Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show has become a staple in the community, attracting exhibitors from 24 states to exhibit 125 different breeds in 2022.

The Carson City Stake Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be hosting their annual community clothing exchange on Friday and Saturday, August 18-19, 2023, at the church building located at 411 N. Saliman Road, just south of Carson High School.

A 24-year-old Mound House man was arrested in the area of N. Carson St. and E. William St. for felony drug possession and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, Noel Colon-Cabral was arrested after deputies were patrolling the area of E. William and N. Roop St. Monday night and noted a vehicle driving with no license plates.

UPDATE 2:40 p.m.: Sheriff Ken Furlong said the scene is cleared and there is no danger.

The Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation (NDOR) is excited to announce that $250,000 in grant funding is now available for youth outdoor education and recreation projects in Nevada. Grants will be awarded to programs that connect Nevada students with nature, increase environmental literacy, foster stewardship of natural resources, and promote physical health through outdoor education and recreation.

Eligible applicants include:

Douglas County will be providing a virtual Zoom option during the Board of County Commissioners Meeting at 10 a.m. on August 3, 2023. The courthouse elevator is currently out of order and the Zoom component will allow for the meeting to be accessible to all individuals.

It was a beautiful day on June 2, 2023 for the Dayton Chamber's 30th Annual "Making A Difference" Golf Tournament. 60 golfers enjoyed a well groomed golf course, great food and libations, and lots of raffle and auction prizes.

During the early morning hours between July 1-3, 2023, an adult male entered two Stateline resort condominiums by opening unlocked screen doors. Once inside, he positioned himself at the foot of the bed and rubbed the feet of two separate adult females. Each female awoke from their sleep as the subject was rubbing their feet. Once awake the females confronted the male subject and he fled the scene.

I received numerous suggestions on controlling ground squirrels. Mark recommends clumps of cat urine from the litter box as a repellant. Nancy resorted to trapping them in live traps and then putting them, trap and all, into a large tote filled with water.

Girls on the Run Sierras is bringing their week-long, character-building summer camp to Carson City on Aug. 7.

At Camp GOTR, girls will participate in a week-long, half-day camp with lessons about friendship, kindness and creativity. The camp is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and there is a sliding scale cost.

Michael K. Falciani's book "The Raven and the Crow: The Gray Throne," written under the pen name of Mr. Kinkade DeJoseph, a teacher at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, won Best Fantasy Novel. Additionally, another one of his books, "The Dwarves of Rahm: Omens of War," won Best Steampunk Novel.
