Here is the Carson City road report for the week of August 21-27, 2023. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

Douglas County is embarking on the strategic-planning process to create a shared vision between the residents of Douglas County and their elected officials. This five-year strategic plan document will serve as an operational roadmap for the future. It is designed to evolve over time in response to the changing needs of the organization and the community.

Lake Tahoe made international news earlier this summer — but not for a positive reason. On July 4, the Zephyr Cove and Zephyr Shoals area were inundated with 6,279 pounds of trash and debris left over from celebrations, the worst in the history of beach cleanups.

Each year, July 5 beach cleanups take place throughout the area thanks to the League to Save Lake Tahoe and dedicated volunteers with Clean up the Lake and other organizations, who worked diligently to remove trash and debris from both the beaches and the water.

Wild Horse Productions raises $7,900 in a benefit event which was held to support Zoe Ward, one of their young actors courageously facing the challenges of childhood cancer.

Janelle Hoover, a chief nurse at Carson Tahoe Hospital, will be honored with the Bryant True Heroes Award on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 9:30 a.m. at a special ceremony at the Nashville Social Club, located at 1105 S Carson Street in Carson City.

The Nevada Retired School Employees Association serves the interests of any retired school employee living in the state. NRSEA promotes the economic, social, and professional welfare of retired school employees and helps them maintain identity with the educational profession.

A crash was reported on the southbound on-ramp of I-580 at E. William Street at around 4:20 p.m. today.

There were two vehicles are involved. Injuries are unknown at this time.

Traffic is currently blocked. Motorists must find alternate routes. First responders are en route to the scene.

On Thursday, August 17, 2023, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners discussed and approved Lyon County Human Services accept a grant award from the Office of Public Health Infrastructure and Improvement for the Fiscal Year 2024 in the amount of $106,169.23 to develop a feasibility study regarding the creation of a regional health district for the quad-county (Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey Counties) region of Nevada.

Last week we wrapped up Camp GOTR at the Carson City Community Center. Throughout the week, girls learned how to work as a team, explored characteristics of a good friend, and discussed how to navigate uncomfortable conversations and emotions. We are sending a BIG energy award to all of the volunteers and supporters of GOTR as well as the employees of the Carson City Community Center for making Camp GOTR possible. On Saturday, August 26, 2023, Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City, NV will host a Super Sporting Clays Fun Shoot with a special format and discounted Sporting Clays target fees from 9:00am to 4:30pm.

Thursday afternoon, several calls came into dispatch from concerned citizens after they witnessed a woman who appeared to be hallucinating.

When deputies located the woman, she did not speak to deputies and walked in the opposite direction. When deputies located her again, she was laying between a sidewall and a parking lot.

Local Rotarians will have the opportunity to learn more about the service organizations regional and national plans when the organization’s District Governor visits the Rotary Club of Carson City at its August 22 meeting.

Due to staffing shortages at Sand Harbor State Park, the Nevada Division of State Parks will be closing the boat ramp and adjacent parking lot within the park on Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning August 23.

During these closures, the public will need to use the boat ramp at Cave Rock State Park or another public boat ramp.

The sounds of the Grateful Dead are here to stay with the Nevada alum band, The Deadbeats, as they make a stellar appearance at the Carson City fan favorite venue, the Nashville Social Club on Saturday, August 19 at 7:30pm! The last performance of the Levitt AMP summer concert series takes place this Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City, located at 449 W. King St.

The final performance features Shamarr Allen as headliner, and the fun begins at 7 p.m.

In addition to year-round restricted areas, enhanced fire restrictions are now in effect on National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin and will remain in effect through the end of December 2023, or until rescinded. Enhanced fire restrictions mean wood and charcoal fires are now prohibited in Blackwood Canyon, Luther Pass, and Watson Lake campgrounds. Portable stoves are allowed with a valid permit.

Amidst the growing concerns over the worldwide pilot shortage, opportunities are emerging for aspiring aviators to capitalize on the industry's demand. Western Nevada College (WNC) is stepping up to address this deficit by offering ground school courses that not only provide the foundation for a flying career but also allow students to earn college credit.

According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the sheriff’s office is currently serving several warrants in the 1500 block of East Robinson St. Wednesday evening.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is investigating a commercial burglary that occurred in north Carson City area.

Wednesday morning, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference for the media in Yerington regarding the recent suicide of Troy Driver, the suspected killer of 18-year-old Naomi Irion.

A 30-year-old Carson City man, Stephen Barns, was arrested in the 4000 block of S. Curry Tuesday evening for felony kidnapping, eluding with endangerment, obstruction, and possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to a local movie theater on report of a suspicious vehicle.

Christopher Sewell, Director of the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) appointed Kristine K. Nelson as new Employment Security Division Administrator.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There have been Secret Service personnel on the south and east shore of Lake Tahoe this week, all in preparation for President Joe Biden's arrival on Friday. The White House confirmed Monday that the President will arrive on August 18 and is scheduled to depart Thursday, August 24.

It has not been disclosed if the visit is for a vacation, business, or for a fundraising event. As of Monday, there are no public events scheduled.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There have been two major crashes at the intersection of US50 and SR28 on Spooner Summit in recent weeks, one of those crashes claiming the life of a 61-year-old man from Washington. Many are calling for a safer intersection in order to prevent more tragic crashes and further loss of life.
