Carson City Save Marts, FoodMaxx selling liquor again after being barred since July 20
The two Carson City Save Marts and the city’s FoodMaxx have began selling liquor again as of Monday, after Carson City Supervisors voted to bar each location from selling on July 20 at the 8:30 a.m. meeting.
During the past 15 months, the corporation that operates the three stores has been doing so without a valid liquor manager. John Norman, a Save Mart representative from California who manages over 80 stores, applied to become the liquor manager for all three stores. However, according to the supervisors, he did not apply in a timely manner and knowingly continued to sell liquor at the stores.
Carson Now reported that Norman took full responsibility on behalf of the company, but supervisors discussed that they believed there should be repercussions for ignoring the law if Norman was to be approved as the liquor manager. Norman, on behalf of the company had been willing to pay a fine to compensate, but supervisors, who originally sought to deny the application, approved the application with the contingency that the three stores are not to sell any liquor until July 31 to give Norman time to prove his suitability for being a liquor manager.
Now, customers are able to purchase liquor from all three stores after 11 days of being barred.
