A 27-year-old Reno man was arrested by Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies early Friday morning for felony possession of a stolen vehicle and being in possession of burglary tools as well as a misdemeanor warrant out of Reno.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating an endangered missing person. Madeline Delaney, 37, was reported missing by a loved one and last seen around FISH in Carson City, Nevada on 138 East Long Street at 11:30 a.m. on July 20, 2021.

UPDATE 10:47AM: All hazards of the incident were reported mitigated by first responders.

The Carson City Fire Department and first responders were called to a vehicle fire just off the Fairview Drive exit in south Carson City on Friday morning.

Around 10:35 a.m., the vehicle was reported no longer on fire and is not impeding traffic.

Minden - The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has declared a State of Emergency as a precautionary action due to the Tamarack Fire burning in parts of Alpine County, California, Lyon County, Nevada and Douglas County, Nevada. The declaration will be submitted to the State of Nevada and will allow regional partners to speed up the delivery of resources required to respond more effectively to the emergency and meet the needs of the community.

UPDATE 3:14PM: Alpine County has finalized the structure damage report and interactive map for Alpine residents to check the status of their structures from the fire. The map can be found here https://www.alpinecountyca.gov/593/Maps. According to Tamarack Fire Information, the map will be updated every 24 hours.

UPDATE 9:27AM: The U.S. Forest Service reports the Tamarack fire has now grown to 58,417 acres and that estimated containment of the fire is August 31. The fire remains 4 percent contained as of Friday morning.

The Tamarack Fire has crossed US 395 in Douglas County and has grown 2,500 acres. Additionally, power to the line that provides electricity to the Coleville and Walker area has been instructed to be turned off at the request of the Tamarack Fire Incident Command Center, according to Liberty Utilities Lake Tahoe.

Lyon County officials advised late Thursday that Smith Valley residents should be prepared to evacuate due to the Tamarack Fire moving toward the area.

On Wednesday, Carson City Sheriff's Office traffic deputies were participating in a Joining Forces operation, looking for traffic violations and specifically for distracted driving violations.

In response to the recent fires in northern Nevada and surrounding regions, Greater Nevada Credit Union has donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada and reopened applications for its Disaster Assistance Loan Program.

Carson City Health and Human Services reports in its weekly update Thursday that there are three deaths, 99 new cases and 57 recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region from July 15 through July 21, 2021.

UPDATE: The fire was declared extinguished as of 2:37 p.m., according to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Thursday afternoon to a structure fire in the 3100 block of Baker Drive.

On Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at approximately 11:31 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to a fatal crash at Goni Road at Fermi Road in Carson City per a memorandum of understanding with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

UPDATE 2:44PM: Guided escorts on Highway 395 in south Douglas County were allowed to happen briefly this afternoon before being stopped completely as gusty winds picked up, pushing the fire closer to Highway 395 and homes in the Topaz Ranch Estate area. The residences threatened are in the evacuation zone.

The Tamarack Fire has expanded to 50,129 acres as of approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, according to updates from InciWeb. The fire now has four percent containment with a total of 1,219 personnel working on the scene.

A 58-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony preventing a victim from reporting a crime and misdemeanor domestic battery, according to a Carson City sheriff's booking report.

Smoke from the Tamarack, Dixie, and Bootleg wildfires around the region continue to bring hazy skies and poor air quality to the Carson City area, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The worst conditions remain immediately downwind of fires.

Why is nobody sounding the alarm? The raging Tamarack Fire is quickly approaching the Leviathan Mine Toxic Superfund Site. As of writing the fire is within 1 mile of the EPA toxic site. In the foothills above Holbrook Junction sits the open pit mine. It was described in the Reno Gazette-Journal as "a toxic stew of acid and dissolved heavy metals [that have]collected at the 250-acre site for half a century and polluted streams in the upper Carson River basin." "making the Superfund list of the country’s most polluted sites".

UPDATE 6:45PM: Forward progress stopped on this brush fire, according to Truckee Meadows Fire. Expect delays as crews mop up.

UPDATE: According to Truckee Meadows Fire Twitter, Galena bridge has lane reductions and is at a slow pace as fire crews work to suppress the fire. A Nevada Department of Transportation traffic camera shows progress being made on the fire.

Truckee Meadows Fire and Carson City Fire Department were called Wednesday evening to a brush fire in Washoe Valley off of I-580 near the Galena Creek Bridge.

UPDATE: Voluntary evacuations were issued late Wednesday night for all residents in the Topaz Ranch Estates and Topaz Lake areas. Residents were asked to evacuate to Smith Valley High School. Highway 395 is now closed from China Springs Rd. to the NV/CA state line, and at 395 and SR208.

The TRE evacuation center is being closed due to the fire. Smith Valley High School is at 20 Day Lane, Smith, Nev. This site has room for 40 small animals, please bring cages or carriers and food.

UPDATE 9:40PM: The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest has closed all areas, campgrounds, trails, and roads on the Carson Ranger District located within the boundaries of the Tamarack Fire. Also, at this time, Hung A Lel Ti residents may choose to begin returning to their homes, per Washoe Tribal Emergency Operation Center.

UPDATE 7:10PM: There are reports, via Douglas County dispatch scanner traffic, that the fire jumped Highway 395 and that crews were able to get to spot fires before they took hold. Meanwhile, the U.S. Forest Service reports the fire has grown to 43,900 acres.

MINDEN — Douglas County is asking the following communities to be on the alert and start preparing for potential evacuations.

VIRGINIA CITY — The saying “STEM is more than engineering and math, it is art, technology and discovery” is very relevant to the Storey County Summer STEM Day Camp being hosted by University of Nevada Extension, mornings on August 3-6 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon in Virginia City’s Piper’s Opera House.

The Carson City School District reopened its doors to students and faculty last school year after a six-month summer break. However, this reopening didn’t come without stipulations, as both students and teachers prepared for changes such as hybrid learning and face coverings inside of buildings.

CARSON CITY — As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployed Nevadans have been able to use unemployment benefit extensions as a temporary bridge until they find full-time employment. The federal and state benefit extension programs are winding down in the next few months as the state’s economy rebounds to healthy levels.

A 58-year-old man was arrested July 16 for suspicion of unlawful use of an emergency number, a gross misdemeanor offense, after reporting his vehicle stolen to Carson City 911 dispatch after it had been impounded by sheriff's deputies due to multiple traffic violations.
