Periodic lane closures will begin Aug. 12 on U.S. 395, Muller Lane, and Elks Point Road in Douglas County as the Nevada Department of Transportation resurfaces sections of the roadways. The Cave Rock State Park will also temporarily close in late August for resurfacing.

NV Energy’s Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) program is a key measure of defense against wildfires. During a PSOM event, NV Energy will shut off power in extreme and elevated fire risk areas to help prevent power lines, things that are blown into power lines, and other equipment from causing a wildfire.

A 21-year-old man was arrested early Saturday for suspicion of felony eluding, misdemeanor second DUI, reckless driving and a bench warrant, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

AYSO Carson City, which has served more than 25,000 children since 1976, is able to cover the cost of partial and full scholarships thanks to a grant provided by Carson Tahoe Health’s Community Partnership Fund and the determination of one CTH employee. Carson City emergency responders were called to a motorcycle crash Sunday night on Highway 50 Spooner. The crash was reported at 6:30 p.m. in the eastbound lane of Highway 50, west of Golf Club Drive.

A battalion chief on scene reports a motorcycle on its side, and a rider on the ground. One person was taken by ground ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

UPDATE 5:25PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said witnesses have stated a second vehicle was involved, however there wasn't contact between the two vehicles, and the second vehicle left the area.

"There's suggestion there was some sort of posturing between the two vehicles," said Furlong. The injured motorist, the sole occupant, is an adult male. His condition is unknown at this time. CCSO's motor unit and NHP are investigating.

A major milestone in the efforts to clean up Lake Tahoe was reached last week. A SCUBA dive team of professionals and volunteers spearheaded by the nonprofit Clean Up The Lake have completed the underwater clean-up of Lake Tahoe’s east shore, removing 9,281 pieces of trash weighing a collective 8,122 pounds.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting this Tuesday, August 10 to gather public feedback on corridor planning for future traffic improvements to the lower segment of Mt. Rose Highway (State Route 431). The study will envision future traffic needs and potential improvements to provide for traffic accessibility and safety amid community growth.

CARSON CITY — As schools across the state return from summer break over the coming weeks, the Nevada Department of Transportation is reminding drivers, pedestrians, and students to be safe in school zones.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called Sunday morning to a vehicle crash in the 2000 block of East William Street and Gold Dust Way.

Wildfire smoke from the Dixie fire and other area wildfires west of the Sierra will continue to produce smoke and haze throughout northern and western Nevada on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Lyon County Board of Commissioners were to take action on adopting the 2020 master plan update at their August 5 meeting. Members instead requested a joint workshop with the planning commission to ensure that all understood the changes from the 2010 comprehensive master plan.

First responders are currently enroute to a structure fire in the area of A street and G Street in Carson City as of 7:25 p.m.

According to dispatch an individual called from B Street stating they could see a mobile home on A Street with a large amount of smoke erupting from the inside.

Residents are urged to avoid the area.

One man is lucky to be alive after jumping into Lake Tahoe to save a nine-year-old boy who had drifted away from a pontoon charter boat in late July.

A family reunion was being celebrated on the two-level pontoon boat equipped with a slide. An afternoon storm came up quickly on the lake, creating three-to-four foot waves. Just as the waves came, the boat ran out of gas.

As of 6 p.m. Friday evening, nearly 3,000 Douglas County residents are without power, according to NV Energy.

2,942 customers found themselves in the dark at 5:21 p.m., which is when the outage was first reported.

Just after 4:15 p.m. on Friday a traffic accident was reported in front of the Goodwill on Highway 50.

Three vehicles are involved in the eastbound lanes and are blocking traffic.

Motorists should seek alternate routes.

The August Wine Walk, which was to take place tomorrow in Downtown Carson City, has been cancelled due to smoke.

The Downtown Business Association's statement is as follows:

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners were informed Thursday (August 5, 2021) at their regular Board meeting of a meeting with local and federal agencies to address the homeless issues occurring in Lyon County.

County Manager Jeff Page informed the Board that Commissioner Ken Gray requested a meeting, held August 4, 2021, with the Bureau of Land Management, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Human Services and Code Enforcement to discuss addressing the homelessness in Lyon County.

Recently, there have been several statements from the Governor’s Office and the Carson City School District relating to the wearing of facemasks to begin the 2021-2022 school year. This message supersedes all previous messages and represents the most recent official position of the Carson City School District.

Battle Axe and Tracks, Carson City’s first multi-day music festival of its kind, is giving aspiring artists the chance to perform at the festival Oct. 2-3 with the Carson City Axe Battle.

Carson City Kiwanis to host its 8th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day fundraiser on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City, NV.

On August 5, 2021, at approximately 2045 hours, an unknown suspect walked into the back door of the Topaz Agricultural Inspection Station, located on the southbound side of US 395, just south of the California / Nevada State Line.

The suspect entered the office, armed with a small sledgehammer or similar weapon.

The suspect found the victim, a 70-year-old Agriculture Inspector, on duty and in uniform, standing in front of a computer station in the office.
