Happy Saturday, Carson City! This weekend some events have been cancelled due to the smoke, such as the August Wine Walk, but there are even more events to be enjoyed!

Heathers, the Musical

“Heathers the Musical: High School Edition” will be playing one weekend only, August 5-8 at the Carson City Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows at 7:30 pm and Sunday show at 2:00 pm.

Based on the 80s cult classic movie "Heathers" starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, this rock musical tells the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with new kid J.D., a mysterious teen rebel who plans to put the Heathers in their place — six feet under. Directed by Sierra Scott and Tara Burke, “Heathers the Musical: High School Edition” is a hilarious, heartfelt, and homicidal new show based on one of the best teen comedies of all time.

Tickets are $15 general admission.

Levitt-Amp presents The Fire

This Saturday, August 7 the show starts at 7pm with Ciana, Traditional Celtic Music for an opening set and then at 8pm The Fire, Blazing Scottish Music takes the stage.

School clothing exchange this Saturday.

The Carson City Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a community Back to School Clothing Exchange on Saturday, August 7, 2021. The exchange is open to the public from 9 a.m. until noon at the church located at 411 N. Saliman Road in Carson City, just south of Carson High School.

Dream Center hosts back to school supply events in Carson City, Douglas

This year, in partnership with Shine, A Jesus Church and Lifepoint Church in Minden, the Dream Center will be hosting two drive thru Back to School events this Saturday, August 7 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

For Carson City students, the Back To School Bash will be held at Mark Twain Elementary School and for Douglas students at Wink’s Silver Strike Lanes.

There will be backpacks sponsored by Prime Lending, school supplies, goodie bags for kids and parents, free groceries and cold ice cream treats for everyone! If your elementary age student needs help with supplies for school this year, drive by and see us.

Artist reception at Artsy Fartsy

Join Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and Jason Clark on Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the front yard of the gallery. Jason has been hard at work creating his newest series.

"My latest evolution has redesigned my style," said artist Jason Clark. "I’m crystallizing my designs and adding it to my fluid acrylics. There is a clean and elegant touch to every piece."

Firehouse subs water bottle collection Saturday

Firehouse Subs invites guests nationwide to join its effort to hydrate local heroes and communities with the ninth annual H2O For Heroes bottled water collection drive.

On Aug. 7, Firehouse Subs restaurants will offer one medium sub to each guest who brings in at least one unopened, 24-pack of any brand of bottled water. Limit one medium sub per person, per case of unopened 24-pack bottled water (of any brand).

Liberty Seated half dollar Coin pressing

See historic Coin Press No. 1 in action Saturdays in August at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, before it goes on hiatus in September for maintenance.

The press will be minting reproductions of the 1870 Liberty Seated half dollar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday in August. The original Liberty Seated coins were minted at the Carson City Mint from 1870 to 1878; the reproductions are minted from Nevada silver and sell for $125.

Nevada Artists Association Summer show

Entries are from NAA member and non-member artists from Northern Nevada and are divided into judged categories including oils, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, dry media, 3D art, photography, digital art and mixed media.

Everyone is invited to the awards presentation and reception on Sunday, August 8th from 2 to 4 p.m.

Show runs from August 1 through September 10. Open daily noon to 4 p.m. except Monday. Nevada Artists Association Gallery is located on the Brewery Arts Center Campus, 449 W. King Street. Admission is free.

Olympic medal winner, Krysta Palmer returns for celebration in Minden at swim center

After a successful debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the community that has supported her and followed her journey throughout her career welcomes her home from Tokyo.

The Homecoming celebration will be sponsored by and held at the Carson Valley Swim Center, 1600 Highway 88, Minden this coming Sunday, August 8, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies and Nevada State Police were called to a traffic crash late Saturday afternoon on I-580 northbound north of Arrowhead.

UPDATE SATURDAY: The Carson City Sheriff’s Office released the following information regarding the arrests Friday in connection to the July 4 shooting in the area of 20 College Parkway. Two have been arrested.

A brushfire that occurred in Dayton Friday evening is currently in the mop up phase.

The fire which was reported just south east of Highway 50 is estimated to have burned around two to three acres and no structures were in danger.

Douglas County is pleased to announce the successful implementation of a new parking program at its beaches during the 4th of July holiday.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, a plane made an emergency landing on Highway 50 at Pradere in the Dayton area on Friday.

Over 100 volunteers showed up at Zephyr Shoals this morning for the annual post-July 4 cleanup. The increase in volunteers is due entirely to the horrors of last year’s cleanup during which volunteers and the League to Save Lake Tahoe cleaned up over 6,000 pounds of trash alone.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday night to a small brush fire behind Meeks Lumber in north Carson City.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a credit card skimmer device discovered Thursday at an East Carson City business.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6. There will be aircrafts, helicopters, law enforcement vehicles, mounted horses, fire engines, giveaways, music, games and more.
