Last week our antiquated irrigation system broke down again. We have maintained, adjusted, dug up, rebuilt and jerry-rigged this inherited system since 1988. I can’t remember how many timers, valves and sprinklers my husband (the brains of our irrigation repair team) has replaced, how many sprinklers and broken lines I have dug up, and how many poplar, ash and pine roots I have wrestled with through the years.

To begin, I sometimes speak up when a little voice deep down inside is shouting, “Don’t do it!” That happened at the VA last month when they were telling me when to return to have my stitches out. I told them I had a semester of pre-med and could take out my own stitches. Don’t let the grumpy face fool you. Boots is sweet as sweet can be. A healthy 9-year-old boy, he was much loved by his owner Mary Phillips. Mary and her husband Doug owned and operated “Another Chance” kitty rescue in Dayton and were responsible for rescuing and finding new homes for thousands of kittens. Tragically, Mary passed away unexpectedly in December of 2020.

National Pollinator Month continues with an upcoming Douglas County event. This class is where pigments are mixed with hot liquid bees wax. Instructor: Tricia Poulos Leonard is a painter who works in acrylic, watercolor and mixed media and resides in Reno, Nevada

4-H, poultry, veterinary science, education

Dr. Vicky Fogelman will speak about her experiences as a local veterinarian and community health professional at the Carson City 4-H Community Club poultry project meeting this coming Tuesday, June 21.

The Martin Slough Multimodal Trail project is now complete. The general public can now fully access the trailhead as crews wrapped up construction over the past week.

The path connects to Minden’s new fishing pond located south of Buckeye Road.

UPDATE: Fire knocked down. Cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: One structure has been knocked down.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: A helicopter is also responding to tackle the blaze.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: All motorists, including residents, are being turned around at Jack's Valley Elementary School. Motorists are causing issues for emergency personnel.

A 30-year-old Lake Tahoe man and a 33-year-old Reno man were arrested following a traffic stop for possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

Thursday evening, deputies were traveling east on Winnie Lane when they observed a driver of a vehicle looking down towards the floorboard, acting distracted. In addition, the rear license plate was obstructed with a black-tinted plastic cover, and deputies initiated a traffic stop.

The Carson City Cinema Club 2nd Unit will hold its own 2022 Film Competition “Film Noir!” The competition begins on July 13th and screenings and awards will be in August. The time and place for the screenings will be determined at a later date.

The Carson Fly Fishing Club will conduct an Introductory Fly-Fishing Class July 15, 6:00 PM & July 16, all day starting at 10:30 AM at the Ormsby Room, Carson City Sheriff's Office, at 911 E. Musser St., Carson City.

Tuesday was Election Day in Carson City and throughout the state of Nevada and while mail-in ballots will still be accepted for several days as they continue to come in, the ballot tally began after polls closed Tuesday.
