Pony Express re-rides through Carson City
National Pony Express Association riders recreating the historic Pony Express run this month made their way through Carson City Wednesday afternoon en route to Sacramento, CA.
This year's re-ride started in St. Joseph, MO, and concludes in Sacramento later this week, capping a 10-day reenactment of the historic mail delivery service crossing the Western United States from 1860-1861.
The annual Pony Express Re-ride follows the same route that riders used to cross nearly 2,000 miles of prairie, plains, desert basin and rugged mountain terrain to deliver the mail in just 10 days.
Carson City was once home to a Pony Express office, and several exchange stations operated across Nevada's Great Basin. Remains of some can still be seen today.
