NORTH LAKE TAHOE — Free on-demand transportation arrived today in Incline Village, Crystal Bay and elsewhere in North Lake Tahoe. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the service known as TART Connect at the North Tahoe Event Center officially launched the free shuttle service.

Bureau of Land Management Nevada is asking for your help to prevent human-caused fires. The 2021 Fire Prevention Order prohibits specific fire-related activities on BLM Nevada managed public lands from June 25 to Oct. 31, 2021. The Fire Prevention Order makes it illegal to burn explosive material or use exploding targets, fireworks or steel component ammunition.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Sunday afternoon to the 600 block of Carrie Drive for a structure fire.

In July, events begin with a presentation on the “Mountains and Peaks of Carson Valley” and a Chautauqua presentation of Caleb Greenwood at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Saturday, July 10, at 10:00 am, Allen Biaggi will give a presentation on the real names of the mountains surrounding Carson Valley. Biaggi will also speak on when they were formed and how they impact the perception of those who live in and visit Carson Valley.

With temperatures expected to surge past 100 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Carson City region, western and northern Nevada through Wednesday.

UPDATE 8:58: The following information has been released by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office:

On 06/26/2021 at approximately 1844 hours, Inmate Trustee Matthew Marizza and Inmate Trustee Cody James Abernathy, escaped from the Carson City Jail. An Escape Warrant has been issued. This is a “No Bail” warrant.

Matthew Marizza is described as a 27 year old White Male Adult, 5’11”, 170 pounds, with shaved brown hair, brown eyes. He has the following visible tattoos. “775” and “Pray for me” on the right side of his face and a rose on the left side of his face. A woman’s face is on the right and left side of his neck. His arms are full of tattoos or “sleeved”.

Matthew was last seen wearing a tan shirt, tan pants, and white shoes.

Matthew Marizza’s last known address is in Sparks, Nevada.

Cody Abernathy is described as a 28 year old White Male Adult, 6’00”, 185 pounds, with short brown hair, and brown eyes. He has the following visible tattoos: Black skull with a gas mask on his right hand; a red and black cross on his right forearm; black skull on his left hand; and a black star on his left forearm.

Cody was last seen wearing a tan shirt, tan pants, and white and red shoes.

Cody Abernathy’s last known address was in Gardnerville, Nevada.

Please contact your local Law Enforcement Agency or 911 if you have any information on the whereabouts of Matthew Marizza or Cody Abernathy. Do not attempt to apprehend or approach them.

UPDATE 8:34 p.m.: Drones have been deployed.

UPDATE 8:26 p.m.: Suspects are still at large.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: The Sheriffs Office will be deploying canines into the field.

UPDATE 7:48 p.m.: The two suspects were last seen in East Carson by the river. One is wearing a blue plaid shirt with a white undershirt. Please be aware and on the look out. Both inmates are still at large.

It is unknown at this time whether or not someone met the inmates with a van, or if they stole the van. The van is in police custody. The inmates were not with the van when it was located.

The inmates escaped while emptying the trash.

Douglas County is once again moving back to full in-person public meetings and will no longer be providing Zoom web conferencing and teleconferencing options for participation by the public, due to the lift in State directives regarding COVID-19.

UPDATE 12:56 p.m.: The man is in police custody and will be transferred to the hospital.

UPDATE 12:53 p.m.: The man is currently barricaded himself inside of his bathroom. Law enforcement is continuing to try and maintain contact to convince him to exit the residence.

UPDATE 11:39 a.m.: Gas has been deployed inside the residence while law enforcement attempt to bring the man outside.

UPDATE 11:20 a.m.: Sheriff Furlong stated there is a low level risk, and that the man does not have any firearms. However he did present a knife earlier.

Residents from a Carson City apartment complex were evacuated Saturday morning due to an ongoing threat from a resident suffering a mental health crisis.

The issue started before 8 a.m. on Saturday and residents were evacuated around 10:30 a.m. from the complex on the corner of Saliman and 5th.

On June 24, 2021, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers in conjunction with Partnership Carson City conducted an alcohol compliance check.

This was conducted with the support of three 20-year-olds who were sent into local restaurants in an attempt to purchase alcohol. When asked for ID, each would present their real identification cards.

A second dog from the free roaming dog pack has been captured overnight and transported to the Nevada Humane Society Carson City Shelter at approximately 3:00a.m.

The dog is a tan female with a black mask and she is uninjured and in good condition.

For years, lawmakers and autism advocates have been working to improve treatment and therapy services and their accessibility to people with autism, including trying to eliminate the long waiting lists to receive such treatment — especially because early intervention is key.

This spring, the Legislature took a major step that advocates hope will bring big changes to the situation.

David Wilcox, 51, of Reno is in custody at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility and faces more than five dozen felony counts of capturing images of the private area of another person after an extensive investigation by detectives.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating a runaway juvenile. On Thursday, June 24, 2021 Corey Del Rosario ran away from a home in Carson City. Corey does not have any medical problems and is not considered at risk.

National Weather Service forecasters say Thursday will bring an active day for thunderstorms throughout western and northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra.

Those who were awaiting a downtown gourmet donut shop will need to wait a little longer now that El Camino Donuts, slated to become Carson City's newest donut shop, has vacated the former Gather location they were planning on making their own.
