Carson City arrests: Woman jumping fence in front of deputy leads to drug arrests
Deputies investigating a graffiti case on Sunday morning led to arrests for suspicion of drug possession and other offenses following a brief vehicle pursuit, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Kelsey Halverson, 25, of Carson City was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance 3rd, and three alleged misdemeanor offenses: obstructing an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and an out of county warrant.
Also arrested was Samantha Henry, 35, for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the booking report, a deputy was investigating a graffiti case and speaking with the mother of two juvenile subjects when he observed a female jump a fence into an apartment complex.
The woman, identified later as Kelsey Halverson, walked toward the deputy, in which he gave her a verbal command come over and speak with him. The woman then fled, jumping over the same fence as before, and then getting into a vehicle that took off at a high rate of speed.
Another deputy was able to locate the suspect vehicle as it traveled on North Stewart Street. The vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of a casino. Three were detained including Halverson and Henry and the driver of the vehicle, whose name was redacted from the report.
A K-9 did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive on both sides of the vehicle. Deputies conducted a probable cause search and located a glass methamphetamine pipe with large rocks inside on the passenger side seat. On the floorboard, was a black purse belonging to Henry. Inside the purse, deputies located a safe book that contained a clear plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine. The meth located in the purse weighed approximately 1.2 grams, according to the arrest report.
The driver and Halverson both denied narcotics in the vehicle and denied any knowledge of them, the report states. The driver was originally to be issued a citation for reckless driving. However, after consent was given to search his wallet, methamphetamine was found inside the wallet, the arrest report states.
The methamphetamine that was located in constructive possession weighed approximately 2.1 grams, the report states. Bail for Halverson, $23,000 of which $3,000 is cash only due to the warrant. Bail for Henry: $3,637.
