An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday in the 1800 block of Armstrong Lane and faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery following a dispute with her mother.

According to the arrest report, officers were called to the address at around 7:11 p.m. in response to a domestic battery reported between a mother and daughter.

Lyon County has been awarded $11.9 million in grant and loan funds through USDA Rural Development Nevada to build a waste water collection system for nearly 500 users who are currently on septic tanks near Dayton. The project aims to reduce nitrate problems.

For one night only, an opportunity to see the movie “Trans” takes place in Carson City on Monday, September 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Galaxy Theater, 4000 South Curry Street. When first announced, the event quickly filled theater capacity and “sold out,” but multiplex Galaxy quickly scheduled the screening in a a larger theater, and there are now ample seats available.

4Paws 4H dog club is hosting a guest speaker, Officer Jimmy Sherratt of the Carson City Sheriff's Department Canine Unit at its next meeting, Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Fuji Park's Exhibit Hall. The meeting is open to children age 5-19 and their families. After a demonstration and presentation by Officer Sherratt and his canine companion, he will have a brief question and answer period. With Nevada’s 150th birthday celebration about to kick off, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City is offering interested volunteers a chance to make friends, learn history and become part of the party.

Tour guide training begins at the museum Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m.
No experience is necessary but volunteers are asked to be available at least four hours per month and bring curiosity and enthusiasm for Nevada’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

On Saturday, September 14, Carson City Emergency Management and Health and Human Services are excited to partner with the Carson City Home Depot for a special event in celebration of Get Ready Day.

From 8 am-3 pm on Saturday, representatives Carson City readiness agencies will be at the Home Depot on Market Street in Carson City to distribute bags and basic supplies for readiness kits and to answer questions that people may have about what to include in their kits.

Southwest Gas and NV Energy customers are being targeted again by scammers calling and asking for personal information about their accounts and bills, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Typically people are calling homes and businesses and identifying themselves as being with the utility company and asking for information about their power and in some cases, threatening to shut off the utility if a payment isn't made through a credit card or a cash transfer.
