The women’s organization from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and women from the Salvation Army, joined their efforts to assemble personal care kits for those in need.



“Our goal is to build 100 care kits and deliver them to the Dew-drop Inn, the Salvation Army, and the F.I.S.H. organizations here in Carson City,” said Caresse Williams, Humanitarian Specialist for the Latter-day Saints and organizer of the event.

It seems that everywhere we look as we are driving down the streets of Carson City, we see mopeds, or as they are more commonly known, scooters being operated on the roadways. I am asked time and time again if this is legal as many are unregistered.

Yes, some scooters may be operated upon the roadways however, there are restrictions. For example, a scooter need not be registered nor insured if the motor is under 50cc (cubic centimeters) and the vehicle does not exceed 30 mph on a level roadway.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Sept. 9-15. On Saturday, Sept. 14, Carson Street will be closed between Musser Street and Telegraph Street from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. due to a special event. Detours will be signed and traffic control will be in place.

There is a lot of energy in the downtown corridor of Carson City. Great restaurants, shopping, and character. A number of decisions, coming soon, will have an impact on the desirability of Carson City’s downtown, the city as a visitor and business relocation destination, and ultimately property values. A large faction of citizens, seem to think parking is the issue with the vitality of our downtown. Over the course of this article I’d like to uncover whether that’s really the issue or not, and bring up some important points.

Four individuals and three Carson City businesses were cited this week during an underage alcohol "shoulder tap" operation through the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

The Monday operation is where individuals were asked by an underage "decoy" to purchase alcohol for him or her. The decoy informed those asked that they were underage and could not purchase the alcohol. The decoy was assisted by two Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies who oversaw the operation, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

The Builders Association of Western Nevada Women’s Council, which serves Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County, will continue its Helping Hands program this year by giving single female homeowners or senior citizens some help with upgrades and repairs to the homes they own.

Helping Hand signups continue through Sept. 12. To be considered for the program applicants:

— Must be a single female homeowner or senior citizen
— Applicant’s name must appear on the assessor’s role.
— Is to be done at your owned residence.
— Can be completed within 1-2 days or less.
