A 23-year-old Carson City woman faces three felony charges, including attempted kidnapping and battery after she allegedly beat an elderly woman and then grabbed a 5-year-old girl from a courtyard, carrying her until witnesses were able to free the child.

Laura Elizabeth Rees-Dauer, is being held on $100,500 bail. The incident happened Saturday, Oct. 19 in the area of 20 College Parkway in Carson City. The arrest was made at 4:59 p.m.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval this morning issued the following statement after learning of the shooting at Sparks Middle School. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports two are dead and two in critical condition in the shooting.

An elderly couple were taken to the hospital, one via Care Flight, following a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon at the intersection of College Parkway and Lompa Lane in Carson City.

The passenger of the sedan, an elderly man, was flown by Care Flight. The driver the vehicle, a woman, was taken by ground ambulance, said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Darrin Sloan.

The driver of the other vehicle, also a sedan, was not seriously injured. The accident was reported at 2:44 p.m.

Even though we knew that there were local bear sightings recently around Carson City, we were caught off guard early this morning when we discovered a bear in our back yard.

At 2:55 a.m. my husband was woken up to the sound of a distress call. The whimpering sound was right at the back door of our house. Michael went out onto our back patio to check out the commotion and he came face to face with a baby bear. As he turned around to come back in the house, I called the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Mike Shaughnessy once joked to a Rotary club that the reason politicians were put at the front of the Nevada Day Parade was that it was better to put the horses’ behinds ahead of the horses.

The quip made the Reno paper the next day and earned Shaughnessy an early morning call from then-Gov. Mike O’Callaghan, who was notorious for reading people the riot act.

Fire crews in Carson City responded late Saturday night to a motor home on fire in the area of Gordon and Brown streets.

The call came into dispatch at around around 10:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to the vehicle emitting a heavy amount of smoke. As of 10:41 p.m. firefighters had the fire out and were mopping up. No injuries were reported.

The owner of the motor home was at the scene as was his dog, according to dispatch. Both were reported to be fine but now without a home.

UPDATE: The southbound lane of I-580 at Arrowhead in Carson City was opened at 9:35 p.m. after a three-vehicle injury accident Saturday night.

UPDATE: As of 8:36 p.m. Those working the scene of an accident on the Carson City Freeway say it will be at least 30 minutes before the southbound lane is open. Emergency crews responded to a 3-vehicle crash with injuries Saturday, first reported to Carson City dispatch at 7:36 p.m.
