Sue Jesch is the Education Director of the Carson City Symphony and an amazing private violin and viola instructor. She has taught violin and viola and performed professionally for more than 30 years. She began playing in the Carson City Symphony when she moved to Nevada in 2004.

She became founding director of the Symphony’s successful Strings in the Schools and Strings in the Summer programs in 2005. She is recipient of the 2011 Nevada Governor’s Arts Award for Leadership in Arts Education.

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation will present Special Recognition Awards for year 2013 recipients in a brief ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 4:30 p.m. at the monument at the entrance to the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park.

The public is invited to attend this free, outdoor event. The awards will be presented in the following categories:

Volunteer of the Years - Scott Tully, an individual who has an impressive, sustained record of donating his time and expertise for recreation programs.

Sena Loyd, who is the current technology trainer at Carson City Library, was selected Thursday as the new director.

The Carson City Library Board of Trustees held the interviews from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the new library director in Carson City. Loyd replaces former Carson City Library Director Sara Jones, who took a job earlier this year as Marin County Director of Library Services in California.

We are hearing so much about bullying these days. Of course it's been around since the dawn of time. I believe the best way to combat bullying is sports/after school activities or clubs.

A lot of the kids that are bullied go straight home and do nothing but think about the bad stuff that happens to them and how they are going to make it stop. It consumes their thoughts.

I was bullied in school, but I never had time to think about any of that because I was involved in sports (baseball, basketball, bowling, soccer)

There's been a lot of traffic fatalities in Nevada this year. Some involving alcohol. Some not. So with this weekend bringing tens of thousands of people to Carson City for Nevada Day festivities, motorists should take it easy on the road. If you're going to drink, don't drive. If you're going to drive, don't drink.

On Friday the Carson City Sheriff's Office will do a saturation patrol of city streets. A saturation patrol is where patrol officers will be looking, specifically, for impaired drivers and those driving vehicles with expired plates or broken lights, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Champion hot wings served up tangy Buffalo style will find a home in Carson City beginning next month when the Buffalo Wild Wings franchise opens its doors on South Carson Street.

To be sure there's a packed grand opening at the sports bar and restaurant being built at 3815 South Carson Street, the owners are offering quite an incentive: Free wings for a year for the first 100 people who walk in the door at 11 a.m. Nov. 18.
