Tickets for the Friends of the Carson City Library 4th annual New York New Year's Eve Party are on sale now through Dec. 21. This spectacular annual party helps raise money for the Carson City Library.

Hosted by the Friends of the Carson City Library and the Carson City Library Foundation, the event runs from 6 to 10 pm in the Carson Nugget Ballroom.

Two Carson City businesses had their glass doors smashed and cash registers tampered with overnight.

The Manger Christian Bookstore, and Dreamwell Comics, located at 4250 Cochise Street in South Carson City at the corner of Clearview were broken into sometime overnight, with the thief or thieves apparently attempting to get money from cash registers.

A 30-year-old Modesto, Calif., woman was booked into Carson City Jail Thursday, Dec. 12 on a gross misdemeanor warrant charge of child neglect or endangerment and three misdemeanor charges of contempt of court, failure to appear.

The warrant charges were issued out of Carson City Justice Court on June 18 and June 26, 2013. Bail: $4,500.

Sometimes people ask me jokingly, “You have snow tires for that thing?”. I think most people assume it’s time to put the bikes away when the snow starts falling. When I reply, “Yes, actually I do. I have a set of studded snow tires with 240 studs per tire!”, they seem pretty surprised. Not only because such a thing exists, but that you’d want to ride in the snow in the first place. Like any other winter activity though, winter biking can be fun with the right gear.

Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce our upcoming production of "Yes, Virginia: The Musical" an exciting new holiday classic based on the Macy’s and NBC Holiday special of the same name.

The show will run three performances, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. "Yes, Virginia: The Musical" is a brand-new musical that has been adapted specifically for children and families by Macy’s, in partnership with the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

There has been a lot of controversy and negative press over the last few years regarding our downtown and the movement of the 20/20 group. Many of you remember Carson City having a downtown. Some of you are new to our area within the last 30 years, and some are of a generation who grew up here and only know what you have been familiar with. In all these scenarios change is very unsettling.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a parental abduction of two children, missing since Nov. 21.

According to reports, Kathryn Ann Moore, 44, of Wellington, was scheduled to appear in District Court for the scheduled child exchange of Patricia Brite Read, 5, and William Jesse Moore, 2, to their father Richard Read of Gardnerville, who has joint custody of the children.

Kathryn did not appear in court for this exchange. Attempts to contact Kathryn have been unsuccessful and a recent visit to her home has indicated that she has left with the children.

Nevada JobConnect is warning jobseekers to beware of a Craig’s List scam in which two Northern Nevada customers recently fell victim.

An advertisement on Craig’s List requested jobseekers purchase Wal-Mart gift cards for $70 to pay for OSHA training for a job. Clients were told to go to the Reno or Sparks JobConnect where they would supposedly receive OSHA training to qualify for the job. However, no such training or job opportunity exists, said Renee Olson, administrator for the Employment Security Division of Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

A 46-year-old transient was arrested early Thursday morning in the 500 block of North Stewart Street in Carson City.

The man faces a misdemeanor charge of destruction of property after allegedly throwing a rock through a window of an apartment after being asked to leave because he was too intoxicated, according to the arrest report.
