A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday on suspicion of grand larceny after admitting to law officers that he stole power tools from his father to support his heroin addiction.

Joseph Eckert was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Monday at an apartment on Arizona Circle. He being held in the Carson City Jail on $25,000 bail.

More than 160 Carson City elementary school children, many identified as homeless, living in shelters or with parents and family members in motel rooms, were treated as the heroes they are early Tuesday morning.

With a loud chant of "Santa" the jolly bearded man in the red suit arrived at the parking lot of Walmart on Market Street by way of a CareFlight air ambulance to deliver tidings of great joy to 168 Carson City school children by giving them a chance to shop for themselves and meet up with adults they can now consider trusted friends.

I still remember my first mountain bike ride. It was back in 1985 at my local BMX shop. The owner showed us the new bike he just got, a big-wheeled, fat-tired bike with low gearing. Our small-wheeled BMX bikes were limited to firmer terrain, and you had push them up the steeper hills.

Two people accused in the murder of Nevada Insurance Examiner William McCune — Michael Paul Evans and Makayla Blackmore — were sentenced to prison Monday.

McCune, 62, was beaten to death in his Carson City apartment April 2. His body was dumped along the Carson River two days later.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has been informed that this year’s National Night Out, held in Mills Park in August, has been awarded 5th place among communities nationwide of populations between 50,000 and 99,999.

Carson City placed just behind Maple Grove, MN, Terre Haute, IN, Brooklyn Park MN, and Suffolk, Va. This award is Carson City’s eleventh consecutive year of receiving national recognition, each year climbing higher on the placement list of top rated community events.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed an executive order on Friday establishing the Governor’s Behavioral Health and Wellness Council.

The Council will examine ways of improving and strengthening the systems of support and delivery of services to those living with behavioral health conditions in Nevada, officials said Monday. An analysis of Nevada’s mental health system, which began in May, will also be evaluated by the council.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. – Santa Claus will be visiting the Silver Springs Ranger Station at Lake Lahontan Recreation Area on Saturday, December 21.

Meetings have been established with two Carson City supervisors to discuss proposed downtown revitalization plans as well as building, improvements and infrastructure for Carson City through a proposed 1/8-cent sales tax.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 14, 7:38 p.m. in the 1500 block of Rand Avenue. Bruce Tapia faces a felony charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers responded to the 200 block of Carson Meadows Drive on a report of a domestic battery in progress.

Carson City sheriff's office dispatched advised a Tapia had thrown a beer bottle at a woman and was advised he was leaving the residence, the arrest report states.
