Nevada Senator Harry Reid was hospitalized this morning in Washington, D.C., according to spokesman Adam Jentleson.

“Early this morning, Senator Reid was not feeling well and as a precaution decided to go to the hospital. Tests have been conducted and everything is normal. He is alert, resting and feeling better," said Jentleson. “Doctors have asked that he remain in the hospital for observation so he will not be working today.”

An Incline Village couple said they received death threats after reporting problems with a black bear that was captured and then euthanized Thursday by Nevada wildlife officials.

"People have been giving me death threats," Adrienne Evans said. Evans is a teacher at Carson High School and a well-known mountain bike racer in the Lake Tahoe area.

Carson City resident Joshua Grow was convicted Monday of trafficking 28 or more grams of methamphetamine by a jury of his peers, the Carson City District Attorney's Office announced.

Grow faces the maximum sentence of 10 years to life imprisonment or the minimum sentence of 10 to 25 years and a mandatory fine up to $500,000. He will be sentenced Feb. 3, 2014.

The Nevada Highway patrol reports 22 accidents early Thursday morning due to snow and icy conditions on the roadways. Of those crashes, one was in Carson City near the I-580 freeway onramp and Highway 50 East and another near Spooner Summit on State Route 28. Five crashes were reported in Douglas County.

A 48-year-old transient wanted by authorities after violating conditions of parole as a sex offender was stopped Wednesday on a traffic violation and took off running from Carson City deputies resulting in a search through neighborhoods, businesses and an RV park.

Robert Lee Lyons Jr. was arrested at 7:13 p.m. in the 2400 block of Michael Drive. He faces a felony charge of violation of parole as a sex offender, and six misdemeanor charges, including obstructing police officers.

A 33-year-old transient was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of driving a stolen vehicle after he had not returned it to a California car rental agency, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Jeffrey Lawson is being held in Carson City Jail on $10,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers assigned to the Special Enforcement Team went to a local motel in the 1300 block of North Carson Street to look for a number of wanted subjects.

This is my annual pre-Christmas reminder that Topaz Lake, which is located along U.S. 395 at the Nevada-California state line, will open its 2014 fishing season, one half hour before sunrise, on Wednesday, January 1.
