The Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched the first of several video promotions on Youtube.

Produced by THS Visual Production's Todd Simon, who also does video production for the Nevada Commission on Tourism, the 2 minute, 53 second spot is a seasonal highlight of Carson City, said Joel Dunn, executive director of CCCVB.

Restaurant inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. Inspections for the week ending Dec. 20 include wholesale food distributor trucks, restaurants, a bar and lounge, a caterer, a casino bakery, snack bar and restaurant. Beginning Jan. 1, 2014 inspections will also be made in Douglas County as part of an inter-local agreement.

It has been a busy week at Incline Village on the north shore of Lake Tahoe for Nevada Department of Wildlife game wardens dealing with nuisance bears. On Thursday, NDOW euthanized a 263-pound male black bear and on Sunday a bear was released in the wild south of Gardnerville.

The euthanized bear was positively identified as one that had been breaking into and entering cars, at least one home and some garages in an Incline neighborhood, according to a Nevada Department of Wildlife news release.

UPDATE: The aircraft that landed and flipped early Sunday afternoon at the Carson City Airport was a single-engine Cessna 185. The pilot was not injured, said Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Bero.

"There were no flames, no fuel leaks and all the safety systems did their job," said Bero. The incident was report to Carson City dispatch at around 12:05 p.m.

An 18-year-old Concord, Calif., man was booked Friday into Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges related to graffiti after admitting to law officers that he marked up bus stop covers and electrical boxes with a shoe polish pen.

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 20 and faces a gross misdemeanor charge of child neglect and three misdemeanor charges including domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the 2300 block of Carmine Street at 10:05 p.m. in reference to a call to Carson City 911 dispatch from a crying woman. Officer made contact with the suspect who answered the door with a baby in his hands. Officers immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana with a cloud of smoke in the residence.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell provides an update on the actions taken by the Board of Supervisors at its last meeting, Dec. 19.

Topics include: Appointments to the 9-1-1 Surcharge Advisory Committee, Ward Voting, Carson City's ethics ordinance, the city's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, the proposed Multi-Purpose Athletic Center, a new animal shelter, and other proposed infrastructure improvements.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office conducted a saturation patrol Friday. Officers issued 22 citations for various traffic violations and one vehicle was towed because the driver had a revoked license, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Road projects will be minimal over the Christmas week, Dec. 23-29, according to Carson City Public Works.

There will be tree removal Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 23-24, that will close the roads on Division Street between West John and West William streets from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detours will be marked.

Carson Mall will be getting a new Bealls department store to fill part of the space left by the departure of Gottschalks four years ago.

Joanna Holmes, property manager for the Carrington Company that owns the mall, confirmed that Bealls will be occupying 24,268 square feet of the mall, and that demolition work is already underway to ready the space for the new store.

Bealls is owned by Stage Stores, Inc., of Houston, Texas.

Work is already underway for the new Sportsman's Warehouse store announced in August.
