The Eagle Valley Middle School Science Olympiad team won 1st place at regional competition held at University of Nevada Reno on Saturday, Feb. 8 against several teams from the Northern Nevada area.

Competition at the middle school level is opened to grades 6-9. Coached by EVMS science teacher, Josh Billings, the team is composed of EVMS 6th-8th graders and a freshman from CHS.

A Carson City man was arrested Friday on suspicion of felony child abuse. Terry Ray Kilfian was arrested in the 2200 block of Roop Street at 12:19 p.m.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies met with the 12-year-old victim who claimed his father punched him in the face, then kicked him on the side in his ribs. The child had visible injuries to his neck, face and ribcage, according to the arrest report.

Karen Abowd, Carson City Supervisor, Ward 1, hosts her monthly walkabout Friday, Feb. 14 from noon to 1 p.m. at Mills Park.

“These monthly events play a critical role in keeping me in touch with the citizens of Carson City and allows me to hear directly about what concerns they feel are important and to hear ideas for our future,” Abowd said.

There are many things currently being considered by the Board of Supervisors, including ongoing discussions about the corridor project and creating a sustainable future for the Capital City.

Carson Canine Adventures (CCA) will be holding our annual Open House this coming Sunday, Feb. 16, from Noon until 4pm. We have added a new photographer that will be here to takes pictures.

Dogs are welcome (on leash) and people will have a chance to meet the trainers and find out more information on how they can get involved in the many fun things to do with our “best friends.”

Lone Mountain Veterinary will be there to answer health and nutrition questions. Information on Therapy Dogs Inc, Dog Scouts of America, First Aid for your pet, and local rescue agencies too.
