A strong Pacific jet stream approaching the west coast will bring periods of gusty winds to the eastern Sierra and western Nevada today through this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The image on the left shows forecast wind gusts for Wednesday afternoon, with the strongest gusts expected in northeast California, northwest Nevada, and across Reno and Carson City where a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m.

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested two on felony drug charges Tuesday following a traffic stop on North Roop Street in which one of the suspects fled and was later caught.

Arrested were Michael Jonathan Lang, 20, of Sparks and Jacob Lee Stephenson, 20 of Reno. Approximately 120 grams of marijuana was found inside the vehicle after a search.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The story behind the giant footprints found at Nevada State Prison will be told Feb. 20 by paleontologist Gene Hattori.

Hattori, curator of anthropology and state paleontologist at Nevada State Museum, will be the featured speaker in the third lecture of a Nevada Sesquicentennial series sponsored by the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society.
His talk, “Fossils at Nevada State Prison,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Silver Oak Executive Conference Center, 1251 Country Club Drive, Carson City. It is free and open to the public.

Carson City sheriff's deputies have made several alcohol-related arrests since Monday. A 50-year-old Galt, Calif., man was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, having an open container and not having a valid driver's license, all misdemeanors.

The man was reported by a witness to be passed out in his vehicle for more than an hour at a gas station in the 1600 block of East Fifth Street. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies arrived and found the man sleeping with the vehicle running and the lights on, according to the arrest report.

Three Carson City Jail inmates were booked Monday on felony charges of burglary and grand larceny following an investigation into the theft of three computers stolen from Walmart on Jan. 21, 2014.

The men arrested are Joseph Larson, 24 of Dayton, Michael Harrell and John Kramer, both 20. Each face bail amounts of $30,000.
