Two arrested after large quantity of methamphetamine discovered in motel room
Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies with the Special Enforcement Team discovered a significant amount of methamphetamine — around 60 grams — that resulted in arrests Wednesday at a Carson City motel room.
Jacob Pacheaco, 27, of Carson City, faces charges of level 3 drug trafficking and possession with intent to sell, both felonies and gross misdemeanor destruction of evidence. He is being held on $259,632 bail.
A second man, Jason Way, was arrested on suspicion of being in violation of the Controlled Substance Act after allegedly text messaging plans to buy methamphetamine at the motel room where the bust happened. His bail was set at $10,000.
A report filed by Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy Morgan Tucker said that he was assigned to the Special Enforcement Team and was conducting a business check in the 2700 block of South Carson Street. Aware that a motel room was rented to a person with a warrant, the officer saw a woman outside the room talking with someone inside, which led the officer to believe the room was occupied by others. The woman left the room for about five minutes and then returned.
The officer knocked on the door and identified himself as "sheriff's office." It took about a minute before the door was answered, the arrest report states. The officer recognized the woman, and asked who else was inside. The woman said there wasn't anyone else inside.
The officer asked the woman twice if he could enter the room to look for the wanted man. The woman insisted there was no one else there. On the third attempt, the woman said the officer could go inside, the arrest report states.
Officers found Pacheaco hiding behind the door in the bathroom and commanded him to come out and show his hands. He complied and was detained. The arresting officer then noticed a trash can in the bathroom near where the man was hiding. Inside the trash can was a small ziplock baggie with around 4.5 grams of meth inside as well as two larger baggies with trace amounts of meth in the baggies.
The deputy then looked inside the toilet bowl, locating a large amount of crystal methamphetamine. The officer used a white plastic ice container to scoop the crystals from inside the toilet. The amount weighed around 56 grams. Pacheaco was arrested at 6:14 p.m. for level 3 trafficking which carries a bail amount of $250,000 and destruction of evidence.
Also found were two digital scales with meth residue on them, and several baggies. Based on those items recovered Pacheaco was also charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had a warrant for his arrest for being in violation of a suspended sentence.
Way was arrested at 7:39 p.m. as part of a followup investigation where he allegedly texted messaged that he would buy 1.75 grams of meth at the same motel room for $70. He faces a charge of conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substance Act.
