The Carson Bulldog Wrestling Club competed in the Rocky Mountain National’s Rumble in Reno wrestling tournament this past Saturday at the Peppermill.

Carson City’s youth wrestling club had 20 wrestlers competing in both the Rookie and Experienced categories for ages 6 to 15 years old. The club finished with ten top placers, four of which were first place honors.

Candidate filing for non-judicial offices on the 2014 ballot will take place between 8 a.m. on Monday, March 3 through 5 p.m. on Friday, March 14. Secretary of State Ross Miller encourages candidates filing at the Secretary of State's office to schedule appointments in advance with Elections Division filing officers in Carson City or Las Vegas.

The suspect in an open murder case is set to begin his trial Monday in Carson City nearly one year after a Jan. 26, 2013 road-rage incident that resulted in the death of 19-year-old Desiree Bragg.

Leonardo Cardoza, 27, has pled not guilty to charges of open murder with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon.

Carson City Supervisor Brad Bonkowski provides an update of the Feb. 20, 2014 Board of Supervisors meeting in this edition of It's Your City.

Among board actions, supervisors accepted a $40,000 grant for fire fuel reduction tree service and reviewed other grants. The board reviewed and accepted a liquor license application for Francisco's mexican restaurant set to open in April at the Carson Mall.

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony child abuse, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Michael Isaiah Rodriguez, 21, is being held on $20,000 bond.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded at 3:14 p.m. to the 1400 block of Siskiyou Drive for a report of child abuse. The minor child at the location had fresh bruising on the left side of his face, left eye, chest, back and neck. The mother of the child told officers that she believed her boyfriend, Rodriguez, had caused the injuries to her son.

Recently, I wrote about the method of turn when entering a roadway from an intersection or side street. This led to some discussion in regards to another issue, yielding to oncoming traffic when using the freeway on ramps.

Having been nearly struck myself by drivers of vehicles who fail to yield, I thought I would address this question. Yield signs mean the same as stop signs except you may proceed without coming to a full stop if it is safe to do so.

You must:
• Slow down as you come to the intersection
• Give the right of way to pedestrians and through traffic
