Readers will discover “deftly-crafted narrative moments that unreel like snippets of cinema” in the poems of June Sylvester Saraceno's new book, entitled “Of Dirt and Tar.”

The second, full-length collection of poetry by Saraceno, the English department chair at Sierra Nevada College, will be released March 1 by Cherry Grove Collections, with accolades on its jacket by some of the nation's top poets.

The Fifth Annual V&T Wine, Cheese and Dessert Train, sponsored by the Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary, will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

The Train departs Carson City Eastgate Depot at 10:00am for a trip through the Comstock to Virginia City and will return to Carson City at 3:00pm. Tickets are $70.00 per person. Ticket includes: Wine, Cheese and Dessert to and from Virginia City, lunch in Virginia City, a shuttle to and from the Virginia City station to Main Street, plus other amenities.

Nevada isn’t setting a limit for now on the number of people who can be licensed to grow medical marijuana for sale at dispensaries authorized last year under state law.

The law, adopted by the 2013 Legislature, allows up to 40 dispensaries in Clark County, 10 in Washoe County, two in Carson City and one each in the rural counties.

UPDATE: Carson City residents are undergoing preventative treatment for rabies after being exposed to a puppy that tested positive for the disease. At this time, Carson City Health and Human Services is investigating the origin of this rabies exposure.

The infected puppy, a boxer/collie mix from a litter of 10 born Dec. 9, 2013, was purchased in January from a private owner in the Minden/Gardnerville area via Facebook.

A 27-year-old Dayton man was arrested Feb. 14, 6:31 p.m. in the area of Caroline and Valley streets in Carson City on suspicion of felony conspiracy, possession with intent to sell and transportation of heroin. Gilbert Raymond Ramirez, was being held on $35,000 bail.

According to the arrest report, officers with the Carson City Special Enforcement Team worked with a person who agreed to make a transaction while wearing a wire. The transaction would be for four "points" of heroin, which in street terms a point is .10 grams for a total of $80, the arrest report states.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is poised to vote tomorrow afternoon on a plan to raise sales taxes to fund improvements to the city's major corridors, a multi-purpose athletic center and a new animal shelter.
