Mark Krueger, Carson City Assistant District Attorney, officially filed to run for Carson City District Attorney on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. The seat is being vacated by current Carson City District Attorney Neil A. Rombardo.

“I have extensive experience working with city government and the criminal justice system,” he said. “Carson City needs an experienced prosecutor, civil litigator and team leader to fill the important role of District Attorney and I bring that to the table.”

Karen Abowd, Supervisor Ward 1, filed for re-election on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, citing her desire to see through many projects currently in process, as well as her commitment to the future of Nevada’s Capital City.

“Carson City has gone through some tough economic times and continues to,” Abowd said. “We have needed to be careful in our planning and how we spend available dollars in order to create sustainable, relevant opportunities that have immediate positive impacts, and build a future we can be proud to leave our children and grandchildren.”

A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of Nevada County, Calif., and two misdemeanor-related charges. Jerilyn Grace Aldrich, was booked into the Carson City Jail on $11,244 bail.

A survey of Nevada high school students shows gradual trending in risky behavior, the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health announced Tuesday.

Results of the 2013 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, a biennial, anonymous, voluntary survey of students in grades 9 through 12 in traditional, public high schools, assess six risk areas that contribute to the leading causes of death and disease among youth.

An 87-year-old Wellington man, Samuel H. Dupuis, and his dog were killed in a crash Monday afternoon in Douglas County on State Route 208, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The accident was reported 12:49 p.m. NHP troopers were dispatched to a collision near Kyle Drive, four miles east of Highway 395, involving a commercial motor vehicle and a small pickup, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports that a 17-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody Monday night and faces vandalism charges involving a spree early Sunday in which at least 40 victims were targeted.

Furlong said the male was "somewhat" cooperative and arrested mid-evening. A second juvenile has been identified but was uncooperative. The suspect was arrested based on the surveillance video, taken in the area of Big O Tires on Hot Springs Road, said Furlong. The juvenile seen spray painting in the video below was arrested on suspicion of the vandalism.
