The family of a 31-year-old Carson CIty pedestrian who was struck on Highway 50 near Stateline at Lake Tahoe in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2013 seeks help in locating the driver who fled the scene, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Cody J. Dobson was walking on the highway, or may have stumbled from the adjacent sidewalk, just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at approximately 3:13 am prior to being struck by a motor vehicle, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Black Rock Solar began construction in late February on two new Carson City area photovoltaic arrays: 324 ground-mounted panels at Sierra Lutheran High School and 193 rooftop panels at Silver State Charter Schools.

That means 135 kW of clean energy from the sun powering the 91-student Christian school and the 7th to 12th-grade charter school. It also means an annual utility-bill savings of more than $19,000 for the two schools – that’s $19,000 that can go toward expanded educational opportunities within the Carson City and Douglas County communities.

Jenni Jeffers will present “Owls in Nevada” from 1-2 pm, Saturday, March 8 at the Nevada State Museum’s Family Fun Saturday program. A biologist for the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Jeffers will bring some of the live owl species native to Nevada and explain their life history.

Tickets are available at 9 a.m. The museum will offer a science activity from 10 a.m. to noon in the Discovery Lab, that includes examples of bird’s nests, feathers and eggs, and an opportunity to dissect an owl pellet.

Carson City Sheriff's Office detectives arrested the fiance who was a passenger with Desiree Bragg the night Leonardo Cardoza, who is on trial for murder, allegedly rammed his minivan into the side of Bragg's mother's home, pinning and killing her.

Steven Gilbert Castro Jr., 20, was arrested in Yuba City, Calif., Tuesday where he is facing a felony charge of being a material witness avoiding testimony. Castro also faces a misdemeanor charge of being in violation of a suspended sentence out of Carson City Justice Court. That was filed Dec. 31, 2013.

CARSON CITY — Former Nevada law enforcement official "PK" O'Neill, filed Tuesday at the Secretary of State's office, as a Republican candidate for Assembly District 40. The seat is currently held by former Carson Supervisor and retiring two term Assemblyman Pete Livermore, who is endorsing "PK's" candidacy.

He described O'Neill as "a once in a lifetime candidate." Pete said, "I wholeheartedly endorse him and am giving my total support to "PK" O'Neill on becoming the next representative for Assembly District 40."

There is a lot of misinformation circulating regarding Carson City’s possible future involvement with the Empire Ranch Golf Course. I have heard and read many inaccurate statements regarding what actions, if any, the city might take in regards to the course. I want to help clear that up, and address the facts as I understand them.

The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning March 15 to April 6, 2014. The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris.

The Carson City Rainbow Girls announce their Spring Strut 5K race. Join us at Riverview Park on the first Saturday morning of spring, March 22 at 7 a.m. All runners get a t-shirt and in addition there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers for men and women. All children will get a free Kids Meal at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Carson City Sheriff’s office detectives arrested 52-year-old man Tuesday morning for failing to register as a sex offender. Steven Houston was arrested in the 1300 block of Ashby Court by law officers.

Detectives served Houston an advisement letter to register within 48 hours from the Nevada Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registration Unit last Thursday evening. Houston ignored his obligation to register as a convicted sex offender and was arrested, according to a news release.
