The Carson High Bowling team wasted no time at all in wrapping up their 13th championship in 14 seasons on Wednesday at the Grand Sierra Resort against Manogue High School.

The Carson High School starting lineup: Alec Fletcher, Jacob Zumbro, Dustin Floyd, Skylar Belchar, Brett Paulson, Matt Lidell, Chris Baird, Conlin Herrick, and Tyler Lethcoe steamrolled Manogue 34-11 in the Baker's format for the title. CHS wrapped up the championship by the 6th game in the 9 game match.

The Carson City Historical Society will present its first "Third Thursday" lecture of 2014 with "The Virginia and Truckee Railway at mid-century and beyond: A personal glimpse," by Steve VanDenburgh.

The March 20, 6 p.m. presentation is at the Business Resource Innovation Center, also known as BRIC, which is a partnership of Carson City Library, Office of Business Development, Building, Engineering, Planning and Business Licensing, located at 108 E. Proctor Street.

Mid-March is the time for black bears to emerge from their dens and begin their annual search for food. The first bears to emerge are usually males and females who do not have cubs. Females with cubs usually emerge from the den later in the spring, from mid-April to early May.

“The bears are ready to eat as they emerge from their long winter’s nap,” says biologist Carl Lackey. “They will eat emergent grasses and forbs and will also key in on the carrion of dead and decaying animals that died over the winter period.”

New Driver Education courses for teens age 15 and older will be offered by Western Nevada College over spring break. Each session includes four days of instruction, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $100.

Two spring courses will meet on the WNC Carson City campus on Saturdays, March 15-April 5; and Monday-Thursday, April 14-17, during the Carson High School spring break.

Two classes will be offered in Douglas County at the Eastfork Fire Station in Genoa, Monday-Thursday, April 21-24, during the Douglas High School spring break.

A 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of misusing 911 after allegedly calling the Carson City dispatch center six times without speaking and then ignoring efforts to pick up the phone on subsequent call backs.

According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, a deputy made contact with the man at 3:23 a.m. inside an apartment in the 500 block of Country Village. The man denied he had called 911. Officers spoke with other witnesses inside the apartment who verified the man had taken his girlfriend's phone and locked himself in the bedroom.
