Here's a wee bit o' Irish history in honor of St. Patrick's Day, brought to you by the Gairin Celtic Musicians Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance. When did St. Patrick live?

There is a popular notion that St. Patrick, the Apostle of Ireland, was born sometime in the 4th or 5th Century at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton. But now! Think about that! The village of Kilpatrick is on the River Clyde, which is in Scotland! If this is his true birthplace, then Ireland's patron saint would actually be Scottish! Begorrah!

There will be intermittent closures of the outside northbound and southbound lanes on South Carson Street and Highway 395 between Highway 50 and Snyder Avenue related to the current freeway construction project.

Carson City voters will go to the polls twice this year to decide who they want representing them for the contested office of sheriff.

With the filing period closed, four are running for city's top law enforcement job. The decision will be narrowed to two in the June 10 primary election. Alphabetically those who have filed are: Ken Furlong, Don Gibson, Daniel Gonzales and Lorne Houle.

In the Nov. 4 general election the contested races are as follows:
District Attorney: Mark Krueger and Jason Woodbury.
Supervisor Ward 1: Karen Abowd and Lisa Helget

The Western Nevada College baseball team turned turned two tight contests into victories with walk-off home runs on both ends of a doubleheader Friday afternoon in Carson City.

The Wildcats won 6-5 and 9-6 over Mount Hood Community College of Oregon. The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader at John L. Harvey Field beginning at noon.

Without substantial financial assistance, an award-winning Carson City microbrewery is scheduled to close by the end of March.
The High Sierra Brewing Company announced Wednesday that, barring a last minute partnership or investment, it would be closing its doors on March 29.

Carson City Animal Services is in the process of trapping dozens of cats found Thursday abandoned in a Ladera Drive home.

The cats that animal control officers have been able to retrieve so far are being treated, fed and assessed for health concerns through an intake process, said Taylor Radtke, public information officer for Carson City Health and Human Services.

Nevada Budget Director Jeff Mohlenkamp is resigning from Gov. Brian Sandoval's administration to take a job out of state. His resignation announced Friday is effective April 7.

Restaurant inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. Inspections through March 12, 2014 include two bar and lounge establishments, restaurants and fast food restaurants. All inspections this week garnered AA grades with 100 point scores.
