Smoke may be visible west of Carson City beginning Monday as the U.S. Forest Service continues prescribed fire operations in numerous locations around the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Prescribed burning may continue through the week and possibly the weekend if weather, staffing and conditions allow, according to the Forest Service. Fire operations are scheduled to take place at Spooner Summit and in the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89 near South Lake Tahoe.

A 74-year-old Carson City man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Thursday, 12:35 p.m. at Arrowhead and Bowers. The man allegedly hit a number of mailboxes with his vehicle.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a telephone scam where a man claiming to be a law officer is calling and telling people they missed jury duty and they will go to jail unless they immediately pay a fine.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said at least five residents have been contacted regarding this scam and warns that people should not fall for it.

A man was stopped at around noon Thursday on Arrowhead Drive in Carson City after allegedly driving his truck into mailboxes on Sunrise Drive and then fleeing the scene.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies detained the man after two reports came into dispatch beginning at 11:47 a.m. of a man in a gray pickup hitting mailboxes as he was leaving the scene.

When deputies caught up with the driver on Arrowhead Drive, the vehicle had a flat tire. The Carson City Fire Department was called to evaluate the man. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

A 40-year-old man is being held on more than $1 million bail after leading Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies on a pursuit through the west side of Carson City late Wednesday night, ending when he crashed a stolen vehicle he was driving into a shed and tree near the Governor's Mansion.
