The watchful eyes of Dayton citizens who reported two men breaking into a Ring Road residence on March 13 led Lyon County Sheriff's Office deputies to them and their subsequent arrest.

Tyler Wutch 20, and Michael Mays, 19, both of Dayton are each being held on $25,000 bail facing felony burglary charges, said Sgt. Ryan Powell of the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived and both Wutch and Mays ran away and hid in a nearby field for several hours.  The subsequent burglary investigation showed property was missing from the residence which included multiple firearms.

The Friends of Carson City Library will be closing their Browser’s Corner Book Store, currently inside the library, at the end of the day on Saturday, March 22. The Browsers Corner Book Store will re-open in their new location across Washington St. from the library with a Grand Opening on Saturday, April 12.

On Wednesday, March 19, students in Carson City and Lyon County will join others from across the state to take part in the 5th Annual Nevada Moves Day. This event consists of organized activities that encourage walking or bicycling to school. The event is promoted statewide by the Safe Routes to School Program.

Governor Brian Sandoval issued a proclamation declaring March 19 as Nevada Moves Day 2014 and will meet students from Bordewich-Bray Elementary School who are taking part in a walking school bus that starts at the Governor’s Mansion on Mountain Street.

The forum will feature speakers from several disciplines presenting projects, programs, studies, and educational outreach activities that occurred throughout the Carson River Watershed in 2013.

The Nevada Highway Patrol logged two DUI-related arrests Monday night in the Northern Command area that includes Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe counties during the evening hours of St. Patrick's Day, said Trooper Dave Gibson.

Carson City Sheriff's Office figures have not been released yet. The arrests were made in the Reno-Sparks area.

Julia Teska has been appointed by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval as state budget director replacing Jeff Mohlenkamp who will be leaving April 4. Teska is currently the deputy superintendent for Business and Support Services at the Department of Education.

A signature Nevada 150 event, the festivities will commemorate the 150th anniversary of when President Lincoln signed an act passed by Congress enabling the Nevada Territory to write a constitution, which was our first step toward Statehood.

A double amputee Marine veteran, Rob Jones, will be in Carson City today and Wednesday as part of his efforts to cycle across America, raise awareness and to "pay it forward" to veteran organizations that helped him in his recovery.

The public is invited to meet Jones at a reception at the Hampton Inn, 10 Hospitality Way Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m. He will have arrived after cycling from Fallon to Silver Springs on Highway 50. Jones cycles approximately 35 miles every day as part of the campaign. He lost his legs when he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan in 2010.

2014 standard business driving mileage rate is 56 cents per mile. IRS adjusted that down from the 56.5 cents per mile in 2013.

If the business had four or less vehicles, it is OK to use the mileage rate instead of actual expenses. However, each vehicle’s tax basis (cost) is to be reduced by the depreciation component – 22 cents per mile. That will be important when the vehicle is sold.

The mileage rate for medical travel and for moving expenses for 2014 is 22 cents per mile. That is reduced from the 2013 rate of 23 cents per mile.

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation after allegedly grabbing his girlfriend by the throat, holding her to the point where the woman thought she was going to die, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office.

The suspect was arrested at 4:35 p.m. in the 3300 block of South Carson Street with bail set at $15,352. UPDATE: The charges were later reduced to a misdemeanor.
