Shaheen Beauchamp Builders is setting the original 1873 St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community church bell in its new home on Lompa Lane in Carson City.

The bell was graciously donated by the Brewery Arts Center last year and we are anxiously waiting for it to ring again this spring. St. Teresa of Avila was established in Carson City in 1858.

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his monthly “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant.

Any Carson City resident is invited to stop in. The Cracker Box is located at 402 E. William Street in Carson City.

Carson City's Wild Horse Children’s Theater invites you to travel back to the legendary, storytelling days of ancient China with Disney’s Mulan, Jr., the action-packed, musical stage adaptation of the Disney film.

Complete with authentic Chinese dancing and even an avalanche, this production of Disney’s Mulan, Jr. will be marching its way to Northern Nevada on April 4, 5, 11, and 12 at 7:00 p.m. and April 5, 6, 12, and 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street in Carson City.

The cost of nursing home as of May 2013 is about $7,139 per month in Nevada. The cost of nursing services in the home by qualified caregivers can be that much or even more for 24 hour care.

Hopefully we won’t need that care or not for very long. However, it seems the average need is about three years of care.

If a veteran has low income and less than $80,000 in assets, war veterans may be eligible for up to $2,000 per month for home health care, a nursing home or assisted living. A look at www.veteranaid.org will give some information about that program.

A 41-year-old man, arrested earlier this week after allegedly making threats directed at the president and a Carson Tahoe Hospital doctor, faces a gross misdemeanor charge of causing damage to Carson City jail property after he broke a window with a cup.

According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report, the inmate called a jail deputy to the cell door where food is passed. The jail deputy, on two occasions, asked what the man needed but didn't get a response.

Carson Now is looking for a couple of people who can cover high school sports and entertainment events in Carson City.

For high school sports, ideally we would like to find someone who is involved at Carson High School (like a student or parent) who can take photos, report game scores and write up a few brief news items each week. We also want to expand to other sporting events outside of the high school, as well as any non-sports news coming out of our local schools.

With Thursday's Reno Aces opener, baseball fans will again line the stands for peanuts, beer and a hot dog made exclusively here in Carson City.

For the third consecutive season The Sausage Factory is the official hot dog and sausage for the Reno Aces. Some 4,500 pounds of product were sent off to Reno last week in preparation of Thursday's opening day.

For 13 years, Mile High Jazz Band has been playing at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, on the second Tuesday of every month. Come celebrate this milestone with us on April 8.

Hear sensational big-band music with vocalist Sheryl Adams and guest vocalists Cindee LeVal and June Joplin, and enjoy anniversary cake at intermission. General admission is $5 at the door, and it's free for age 18 and under.

Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, raised nearly $31,000 with 37 celebrity waiters and nearly 400 in attendance Saturday night at Glen Eagles in Carson City.

This fundraiser will allow FISH to continue renovations on their 50 year old buildings in Carson City and will help in replacing their aging homeless shelter van. Special thanks to Dick Campagni Capitol Ford/Hyundai, and Carson City Toyota/Scion for donating a $1,000 gas card for our drawing and the Glen Eagle’s staff for a flawless and delicious dinner event.
