Cold weather will return to Carson City and western Nevada this week with the possibility of snow by Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

A strong cold front will move into the region ending a week of sunny skies and warm weather. The system will produce some light snow by Thursday night into Friday for the Sierra, Lake Tahoe and on to the valley floor.

Two instances of fraudulent use of credit cards used at the Target store on Jacks Valley Road in early January has Douglas County authorities asking for the public's help.

On Jan. 2 and again Jan. 4 the man in these two photos entered the Target store and used fraudulent credit cards to obtain an undisclosed amount of merchandise, said Sgt. Pat Brooks in a Douglas County Sheriff's Office news release. The man is considered a "person of interest" in the case.

At least four people are in custody today and face charges of auto theft after allegedly stealing vehicles over the past several days, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports.

The four subjects, believed to be men and possibly a juvenile, are believed to be involved in the theft of two cars this morning alone in which a vehicle was reported stolen, was recovered and then stolen again, Furlong said. More arrests were in the making late this morning at an apartment at 2808 Menlo Drive.

"This thing has mushroomed. We think there's more to this than stolen vehicles," Furlong said.

Sex offenders registered in Carson City and Douglas County had status checks this weekend during a sweep conducted by the Nevada Department of Public Safety Parole and Probation and the state's investigations division.

Detectives conducted the operation Saturday, Feb. 2, and did surveillance and made home contacts on 23 supervised sex offenders residing in Carson City and Douglas County. The agency received funding for the operation through a United States Department of Justice COPS grant.

Gas Analysts said the price of gas is skyrocketing because the price of oil is on the rise.

CARSON CITY – Insurance Commissioner Scott J. Kipper is warning Nevadans about a telephone scam circulating in the Silver State.
The scam is an automated call that tells consumers that their zip code has been re-evaluated and that they now qualify for lower insurance rates. According to a news release, consumers are then asked to “press one for more information,” if they do, they will be transferred to a voicemail system that asked them to leave personal information.

Carson High School in Carson City now has its own “Senators” debit card for student checking accounts. The card was designed by students through a contest held by Greater Nevada Credit Union, which has an educational branch inside of the high school.
