This Yerington land transfer bill before Congress is getting complicated. U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Carson City, said Tuesday that he wants to add a second federally protected wilderness area to the bill.

UPDATE 7:30PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong clarified Tuesday night that Desiree Bragg has not died as he was informed earlier today and shared with Carson Now. After speaking with family members late this afternoon Furlong said he learned that the woman's condition was 'unrecoverable' and family members are looking for organ donor arrangements.
Furlong said he apologizes for the miscommunication, saying he was erroneously informed that Bragg had died today. When Carson Now called to confirm the woman's passing after several Facebook posts suggesting Bragg had already been taken off life support, Furlong said he was informed earlier that she had indeed passed and regrets the error made in making the confirmation.

Have you seen Charter Media's new show "Women to Women" featuring Carol Paz as hostess? The program is televised every Thursday at 7 pm on channel 3 (Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, Lake Tahoe) and 15 (in Carson City, Gardnerville, Dayton).  The locally produced and privately owned program features Northern Nevada women who are making a difference in their communities and in the region.

Carson Now has become a 2013 partner in the program and will provide regular video of recent interviews, guest updates and biographies.

Children and Family Counseling therapists Jeffrey Davis, MSW, LCSW and Kristopher Komarek, MSW, CSW-Intern, and will present a seminar “Our Shared Romance-What 2 Can Do” at the Carson City Library on Monday, Feb.11, at 6 p.m.

This program is the second in the Mental Wellness Series on Romantic Relationships for 2013. Active participation and interactive dialogue is encouraged. Refreshments will be served.

Two Top-10 nationally ranked teams will face-off this weekend in sunny Arizona. #2 Central Arizona College and #8 Western Nevada College will play four games starting this Friday in Arizona. Last year at this time, both teams faced off in Las Vegas and WNC took three out of the four games. Central Arizona was ranked #1 at the time. The Wildcats also eliminated CAC from the playoffs last season by beating them 9-3 in Salt Lake City, UT during the Western District Tournament.

CARSON CITY — Uncle Sam is going to get first crack at $7.4 million in gold coins left hidden away by a recluse who died without a will.
District Judge James Wilson today set a date of Feb. 26 to auction off some of the gold coins to pay off $800,000 in inheritance taxes due in March.

Rev. Rob Jennings-Teats of Carson City's First United Methodist Church said God repeatedly admonished his prophets, “Do not be afraid." But, he told the group of about 60 people gathered Monday at the State Legislature, “It is a fear of each other that drives us to own more and more guns.”
