Cold weather and some snow expected for Carson City through Friday

A cold front moving into the Sierra and Western Nevada tonight may bring some snow to Carson City late tonight and into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm system has begun to move into the Sierra and Western Nevada, bringing gusty winds to the Carson City area. Widespread snow is expected in the Sierra with snow amounts of 3 to 6 inches for the Lake Tahoe Basin and 1 to 2 inches for Western Nevada including Carson City, southern Lyon County and Douglas County.

One dead after airplane wreckage found in Pinenut Mountain range

One person is dead after wreckage was found from a plane that took off Wednesday night from Minden-Tahoe Airport, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range to be closed briefly Feb. 21 for cleanup

The Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range in Carson City will be closed to the public Thursday, Feb. 21, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The range will reopen for normal operations after 3:00 p.m. the same day.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department will be cleaning the facility and hauling trash and debris from the site. The range is located at 4000 Flint Drive (U.S. Highway 50 East to Rifle Range Road).

Former LA cop suspected of killing 3 has ties to Fallon Naval Air Station

The ex-Los Angeles policeman who allegedly killed three people this week and is involved in an ongoing California manhunt has ties to Fallon Naval Air Station in western Nevada and lived in Las Vegas.

FAA says airplane that left Minden-Tahoe Airport overdue; Douglas Search and Rescue deployed

UPDATE: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident of an overdue plane from the Minden-Tahoe Airport.
A Cessna model 172, red and white in color, bearing tail number N328SP, left the Minden Airport Wednesday at around 5 p.m. The plane was piloted by 46-year-old Keith Jorgenson of Gardnerville. Jorgenson was the sole occupant of the plane.

Carson City ice rink season extended to Feb. 18

The Arlington Square Ice Rink in Carson City will continue its operation through Feb. 18. The rink, located at the corner of North Carson Street and West Robinson across from the Carson Nugget, has enjoyed steady crowds and plenty of use through the season.
Skate sessions are Monday - Thursday 3-5pm and 6-9pm; Friday 3-5pm and 6-10pm; Saturday 10am-1pm and 2-5pm and 6-10pm; Sunday 10am-1pm and 2-5pm and 6-9pm.
