Gun allegedly brandished at Carson City car dealership employee

Carson City authorities are reportedly speaking with a man who allegedly brandished a weapon at a car dealership employee.
The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. Monday. According to police scanner traffic, a man had an argument with an employee at Michael Hohl dealership on South Carson Street in which a silver or metallic handgun was allegedly brandished and then the man left in a vehicle.
At the time of this report, sheriff's deputies have been unable to find a weapon.

Carson City Sheriff: Fatal shooting may have been over a child custody exchange

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released more details in the shooting Sunday night that left a Carson City man dead. James Lay, 32, of Carson City, was fatally shot in the chest Sunday night in the 900 block of West Washington Street.

Carson City man receives two maximum sentences in drug sales, eluding case

A 49-year-old man was sentenced Monday in Carson City District to up to 6 years in prison for one felony count of eluding a peace officer and one count of sales of a controlled substance.
Mark Garner of Carson City, will spend up to 12 years in prison, according to a news release from the Carson City District Attorney's Office.

Artist Peter Goin to speak at Nevada Arts Council reception Feb. 7

Photographs by Reno artist Peter Goin featured in an exhibition called Arboles de Cholula, Spanish for Trees of Cholula, are on display at OXS Gallery through March 22. The award-winning artist and local professor will discuss his work at a free public reception hosted by the Nevada Arts Council from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. UPDATE 10:35AM: David Michael Grimes, 32, of Dayton is being held on $250,000 bail in Carson City Jail and faces a charge of murder after allegedly shooting James Lay, 32, outside of his Carson City home.

UPDATE 10:44PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirms the victim in Sunday night's shooting outside a Carson City home has died. At approximately 8:35 p.m. Sunday night, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man shot at the 900 block of West Washington Street in Carson.

'Bonanza' TV show fans to hold 2014 Roundup Convention in Carson City

A fan club of the TV Show "Bonanza" has announced it will hold its 2014 Bonanza Roundup Convention in Carson City at Gold Dust West.
The event is set for June 26-30, 2014 and marks a return to the Silver State, which hosted a similar Roundup in 2009.

According to the official Bonanza Roundup website, Carson City organizers have planned to open up many locations and homes that were a part of the popular TV show that ran from 1959 to 1973 with 430 episodes.

Gov. Brian Sandoval, who has been a cautious head of state, is facing re-election and might have higher political aspirations, making him loath to propose any sweeping, controversial changes. Democratic leadership is afraid to admit they want to raise taxes, and they don’t have the two-thirds majority to raise money by themselves.

The Sagebrushers: Comstock-era writers took their booze and news to the limit

Alfred Doten had one of the longest tenures of any Sagebrusher in the history of the Comstock. His Nevada career began at Como in 1863, and ended 40 years later with his death in Carson City in 1903.  Today Doten is remembered for the journals he wrote spanning 54 years documenting his career and personal experiences. Seventy years after his death, the University of Nevada Press published a massive three volume set, weighing a hefty 14 1/2 pounds, titled: “The Journals of Alfred Doten 1849-1903.”
