Prescribed fires at Lake Tahoe's east shore above Glenbrook and north shore have been blowing smoke into Carson City.
Fire and fuel crews with the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the Forest Service began the controlled burns today. Winds in front of a storm system are pushing smoke into the area, confirmed Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.

A 51-year-old Carson City man who made it abundantly clear he doesn't like police patrol cars parked near his home, was arrested Sunday and faces gross misdemeanor charges including assault on an officer and a blatant misuse of dialing 911.

According to the arrest report a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy responded at around 7 p.m. to the 1400 block of Stanford Drive on a larceny report. As the officer left his patrol car to retrieve a statement form, he heard someone nearby shout the following: "Get this this f****** piece of s***, f******* cop car the f*** off my property."

Not since Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl’s halftime show have undergarments caused such a national fuss. The Proscenium Players present Steve Martin’s “The Underpants” at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 West King St., Carson City.

Performance dates are Fridays, March 15, 22, and 29 and Saturday, March 16, 23 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee March 24 at 2 p.m.

Proscenium Players is holding open auditions in Carson City for their May production of Shakespeare’s classic, “The Taming of the Shrew” directed by Jeff Fast. This production will be done in the original Shakespearean language and style.

A culmination of more than two months of community service activity, the members of the Silver Sage 4-H Community Club met with Traci Trenoweth of Carson City Advocates to End Domestic Violence and presented her organization with a car load of donations.

Using your cell phone without a hands free device while driving has been illegal in Nevada for more than a year.
Assembly Bill 123 could take the law one step further.
If passed, the bill would make it illegal for pedestrians to read, browse the Internet, or text on wireless devices, if they're crossing any state road, even in residential areas.

Since that day in September 2011, more senseless mass shootings have occurred in the United States — the one in Newtown, Conn., sparking a nationwide debate over gun control.

A change in the weather is headed for Carson City and the Sierra beginning early next week, dropping temperatures and bringing much needed snow to the Lake Tahoe region, according to the National Weather Service.
