Sierra snow, colder weather returns to region early next week
A change in the weather is headed for Carson City and the Sierra beginning early next week, dropping temperatures and bringing much needed snow to the Lake Tahoe region, according to the National Weather Service.
A transition to colder and more active weather is shown in the image above with the model forecast of the upper level low in the green lines and the precipitation in the shaded areas. Winds will pick up Monday into Tuesday with much colder temperatures and snow possible Tuesday into Wednesday, the weather service reports.
Best chances for snow remains in the Sierra, where totals will likely be under a foot. Confidence among forecasters remains low for snow in western Nevada, but snow showers are possible along the cold front Tuesday.
The cold and unsettled conditions will continue through the week into next weekend with several systems quickly moving through the region. There is not any one system that looks particularly strong, forecasters say, but periods of snow showers should be expected with temperatures remaining 8 to 12 degrees below normal.
