Let me start with a disclaimer. I am not against libraries. I have an entire room dedicated to my books. But I have not used a library since I was in graduate school, because everything I needed for work was on-line or in a bookstore, too new to have made it into a library, public or private.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is proud to announce that Trooper Ron Larson is the senior trooper in the Silver State, with 24 years of service.

In those years Trooper Larson has committed himself to being an outstanding Sergeant, Trooper, Field Training Officer (FTO), mentor and friend. Larson started his career in a then 16-week training academy to learn the duties of a Trooper in the Highway Patrol and flourished from there. He was fortunate to have worked in only two duty stations throughout his career, Reno and Carson City, both within Northern Command West.

Western Nevada College's Latino Student Club is seeking performers for a fund-raising event on Friday, Nov. 9, that brings students and the community together for an evening of cultural entertainment. All proceeds from the event support WNC student scholarships.

One of Nevada’s most significant historic treasures is now the nation’s newest historic landmark with action today from the United States Department of the Interior. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar listed the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City as a National Historic Landmark.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on Wednesday announced the designation of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad McKeen Motor Car #70 based in Carson City as one of 27 national historic landmarks.
Calling the McKeen Motor Car #70, Virginia & Truckee Railway Motor Car #22, "the best surviving example of the first commercially viable application of internal combustion power in a self-propelled railroad car" the designation possess exceptional value and quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States, Salazar said.

The Carson City Ghost Walk is a delightfully spooky and enjoyable way to experience Carson City’s Victorian Era and diverse past. Meet lingering spirits of the past, including McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain, with many haunted and paranormal stories to take in. Some of our spirits even lead the guided walking tours of the downtown district’s historic homes. Tours will visit inside at least five different houses and locals.

A Carson City man faces felony drug charges after authorities received a search warrant and found heroin and methamphetamine. Edward Dale Cheney, 23, was arrested Oct. 15 and faces the drug charges as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a suspended sentence.
