The largest Great Nevada Shakeout in its three-year history, and part of the world’s largest public earthquake drill with 18 million participants globally, is Thursday, Oct. 18 at 10:18 a.m. More than a half a million Nevadans are registered to participate in the annual statewide public earthquake drill, and with just a few days to go the Nevada Seismological Laboratory would like 100,000 more people registered.

Jeremy James Morales, the inmate who escaped from the Storey County Jail on Oct. 1 was found Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Morales was found near Mound House outside the Storey County line, said Sheriff Gerald Antinoro. He was dehydrated and had injuries to his feet. He was taken into custody and booked back into the Storey County Jail. He escaped by locking a deputy inside his cell when the deputy was doing bed checks.
He was and is being held on charges of sexual assault involving a minor. Morales was returned to the jail and faces additional charges.

If Carson City really needs a new library, I have an excellent idea. Let’s just buy the Ormsby House. Not for sale? Make em’ an offer they can’t refuse. Think about it.

On the 1st floor: foyer, auditorium, and changing exhibit area, all adjacent to an outdoor plaza (current valet parking). Second floor will have main library desk, space for newspaper and periodical reading, and restaurant without outdoor seating. Floors 3, 4, and 5 would be the main library collection. Floors 6, 7, and 8: computer labs, meeting rooms, and BRIC.

State spending would bump up slightly to deal with more people seeking government assistance and state employees would still see their pay cuts and furloughs under agency budgets released this morning.
Total state general fund spending would increase 2.3 percent next fiscal year over the current year’s spending and then stay virtually flat the following year.

A Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her family. According to the arrest report the mother of the woman who was beaten called authorities saying that her daughter had been assaulted.

Three people have applied for an opening on the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission. The Board of Supervisors will move to make an appointment for the four-year position when they meet Thursday.
Applicants for the seat have been submitted by Joan Colburn, Lee-Ann Keever and Jennifer Veneziano.
