Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of October 15-21: Beginning Monday, Oct. 15, Roop Street will be closed between Northridge Drive and Winnie Lane due to the construction of bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Detours will be signed. On Thursday, Oct. 18, Roop Street will also be closed between Northridge Drive and Hot Springs Road. Business access will be signed.

Letter to the editor:
It was with great sadness that I read the Nevada Appeal report (Oct.6,) “Political Speech Leads to Pushing at Forum”. For many months I’ve tolerated mean, thoughtless tirades by a handful of people opposed to positive change in our capital city community. Everyone is entitled to his opinion, however negative and uninformed it might be.

There is a problem with some American sports fans. We all need to realize that there will be a loser in every game no matter what sport you watch. The loser of course takes more of the spotlight when the games mean a lot more than just a regular season game.

Yesterday, the Saint Louis Cardinals made one of the greatest comebacks in sports' history by beating the Washington Nationals in a decisive, winner-take-all, Game 5. The Nationals got off to a fantastic start by jumping out to a 6-0 lead. The Cardinals never gave in, and slowly chipped away at the Nationals’ lead.

Charter Communications, the cable provider carrying the Wolf Pack’s game Saturday against UNLV, is having “technical difficulties with the reception of the video signal” for the game.
A white screen mentioning the technical difficulties is being aired instead of Nevada’s annual game with its in-state rival.
The Carson City channel for the game is 15. Charter would not comment on the reception problems.

Carson City search and rescue crews found a hiker Friday night who called authorities after she fell about 7 feet off the trail in the Ash Canyon Road area. She was found near a water tower after officers flashed their lights and blasted their sirens.

The airplane that crashed and killed five people after takeoff from Lake Tahoe Airport on August 25 may have experienced problems with a fuel and air mixture after landing earlier in the day at the airport, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board.

Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) will host its annual Carson City Shred Day on Saturday, October 13 from 9 am to noon. The event will take place in the parking lot at the credit union’s Eagle Station branch, located at 451 Eagle Station Lane. Community residents are invited to drop off as much personal paper documentation they would like to safely destroy and recycle. Documents must be removed from binders, though attached staples and paper clips are acceptable.
