Veterans Guest House hosts Rival Raffle fundraiser; ticket holders invited to Army-Navy football game Dec 10 to draw winners

Veterans Guest House, a local nonprofit that helps veteran families seeking medical treatment in the local area invites the public to participate in its Rival Raffle fundraiser. Ticket holders will have the chance to win a $5,000 grand prize, a single $1,500 prize, a single $1,000 prize and five prizes of $500. Tickets are available for $25 a ticket (or $100 for 6 tickets), and all proceeds will support the nonprofit’s continuing work.

Holiday with a Hero is on its 18th year of shopping, and this year, their goal is to serve 230 students.

Carson City Cheer Teams ask for community donations to take part in National competitions

Two Carson City Cheer Teams will be participating in national cheer competitions, and need community support in order to compete.

The two capital city teams are the Carson Senators JV Cheer Squad and the Carson City Pop Warner PeeWee Senators cheer team.

The Carson Senators JV Cheer Squad have conquered both their local and regional competitions, and have set their sights on the JAMZ Nationals in Las Vegas.

Carson City calls for artist to create Mark Twain mural

Carson City is seeking an artist or artist team to design and fabricate a mural on aluminum composite panels that depicts Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain), a Carson City legend.

The mural is to be installed on the exterior Robinson Street wall of the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

Carson High speech and debate team sees 12 place in the top 10 at Elko competition

Carson High School speech and debate returned home from a successful competition at Spring Creek High School in Elko over the weekend. Twelve schools and 152 students competed at the two day event. Thirteen CHS students participated in the competition with 12 placing in the top 10 in at least one event.
