All aboard the Candy Cane Express Thanksgiving weekend in Virginia City
While summer held on for as long as it could this year, we’re finally getting into a holiday season filled with snow, twinkling lights, sleigh bells and of course: hot cocoa!
What better way to celebrate the season than by taking a ride on the historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad’s Candy Cane Express.
While the Candy Cane Express in Virginia City often sells out in December, this year, you’ll have the chance to take a jolly trip on Thanksgiving weekend with your friends, family, and little ones.
“Do you remember when you were a little kid and being so excited on Christmas Eve? That's how the ride feels, because you are surrounded with children who still have that wonder and the ride brings it all back,” said Kelly Houston from the V&T Railroad.
The Candy Cane Express will run on Friday, Nov. 25 through Nov. 27, as well as Saturdays and Sundays through December 18. The train leaves the station at noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The round trip journey to Santa’s Christmas Workshop in Round Hill lasts 45 minutes, and includes hot cocoa and teats, along with a special reading of the classic “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
Tickets are $28 and will be sold as reserved seating in groups of 2 and 4, with children under four riding for free so long as they sit on a lap.
