The grounds at the Nevada Capitol Building in Carson City illuminate with Christmas decorations. The lights were switched on Dec. 1 at the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights and will remain on through the holidays.

Happy Friday Carson City and say hello to our newest pet of the week this week, Amelia!

Amelia is an 8-month-old pup. She came in needing medical attention to her eyelids. Her lower eyelids rolled inward, which our amazing veterinarian was able to fix. She is still healing but is doing great! She is looking for a home to help her heal and learn good manners and cool tricks.

Carson City glass maker donates proceeds from handmade ornaments to local children in need

During the holiday season, it’s everyone’s job to step in and help where and how they can. For Justin Colburn of Sierra Glass Mill, he chose to help out while doing something he loves: glass blowing.

Colburn is making a number of locally-made, glass-blown ornaments in order to give back for the holidays. All proceeds from the ornaments will be donated to Austin’s House.

Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 raises $3,142 for Douglas-Carson Rodeo Club

On October 13th, Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 held a fundraising dinner and auction on behalf of the Douglas-Carson High School Rodeo Club.Jim Masterson, event chair, presented outgoing President Curtis English, incoming President Nathan Morian and Secretary/Treasurer Elisa Danen with a check for $3,142.

Carson City antique store prepares to close, donates $2,500 to SPCA

After 25 years as a local antique shop, Hanifin's Antiques in Carson City will close in the next few weeks. Owner Michael Robbins presented Carson City SPCA director Susan Paul with a check for $2,500. Robbins says he is very happy to donate to local charities in his last weeks in Carson City.

He has been extremely pleased with the patrons and city leaders over his time in Carson City. Robbins will be donating to many local charities to express his appreciation with the customers who have supported his business.

Carson City Moose Lodge No. 2709 raises $250 for FISH through Empty Bowls

On Friday, Dec. 1, Carson City Moose Lodge No. 2709 members participated in the Empty Bowls fundraiser held at Carson Mall. Attendees were encouraged to purchase a hand crafted, unique pottery bowl from the Ogres-Holm Pottery Studio for a $15 donation and were then able to fill each with a soup, chili or spaghetti provided by 20 different local restaurants.

The Moose effort was coordinated by David Wroth and presented the check for $250 to Jim Peckham of FISH.

Open burning near ponds Monday at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City

Smoke can be seen Monday in east Carson City from Empire Ranch Golf Course where they are doing open burning.

The Carson City Fire Department is allowing open burning through Dec. 17, 2023 dependent upon permit status and daily weather conditions.

Carson City Empty Bowls Planning committee wants to express their gratitude to the community for coming out to the 9th Annual Empty Bowls event held this past Friday, December 1st, at the Carson Mall.

Throughout the year, the committee invites the community to join them at Ogres-Holm Pottery to learn how to create, glaze, and design ceramic bowls for the event.
