The grounds at the Nevada Capitol Building in Carson City illuminate with Christmas decorations. The lights were switched on Dec. 1 at the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights and will remain on through the holidays.

All the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodges in the U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico and the Panama Canal Zone, including Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177, congratulates the National Guard on their 387th anniversary.

Meet the Dynamic Duo of Bert and Ernie, twin brothers born on May 26, 2023. Just 6 months old, these two will provide you with double the love and twice the entertainment. They love to play with toys, lasers and especially each other.

Amelia is an 8-month-old pup. She came in needing medical attention to her eyelids. Her lower eyelids rolled inward, which our amazing veterinarian was able to fix. She is still healing but is doing great! She is looking for a home to help her heal and learn good manners and cool tricks.

During the holiday season, it’s everyone’s job to step in and help where and how they can. For Justin Colburn of Sierra Glass Mill, he chose to help out while doing something he loves: glass blowing.

Colburn is making a number of locally-made, glass-blown ornaments in order to give back for the holidays. All proceeds from the ornaments will be donated to Austin’s House.

The community is invited to join Life Church Carson City on Dec. 10, 2023 for its grand opening celebration with free lunch after service.

On October 13th, Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 held a fundraising dinner and auction on behalf of the Douglas-Carson High School Rodeo Club.Jim Masterson, event chair, presented outgoing President Curtis English, incoming President Nathan Morian and Secretary/Treasurer Elisa Danen with a check for $3,142.

Shoe Tree Brewing Co. in both their Carson City and Minden locations is hosting a shoe drive for children, teens and seniors in need.

After 25 years as a local antique shop, Hanifin's Antiques in Carson City will close in the next few weeks. Owner Michael Robbins presented Carson City SPCA director Susan Paul with a check for $2,500. Robbins says he is very happy to donate to local charities in his last weeks in Carson City.

He has been extremely pleased with the patrons and city leaders over his time in Carson City. Robbins will be donating to many local charities to express his appreciation with the customers who have supported his business.

On Friday, Dec. 1, Carson City Moose Lodge No. 2709 members participated in the Empty Bowls fundraiser held at Carson Mall. Attendees were encouraged to purchase a hand crafted, unique pottery bowl from the Ogres-Holm Pottery Studio for a $15 donation and were then able to fill each with a soup, chili or spaghetti provided by 20 different local restaurants.

The Moose effort was coordinated by David Wroth and presented the check for $250 to Jim Peckham of FISH.

Smoke can be seen Monday in east Carson City from Empire Ranch Golf Course where they are doing open burning.

The Carson City Fire Department is allowing open burning through Dec. 17, 2023 dependent upon permit status and daily weather conditions.

The Orthodox Church is the original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ, given to His Apostles, and described in the New Testament. There was one Church until a split separated Orthodox East from Latin West in the 11th century, but the Orthodox Faith and practice has continued unaltered for two thousand years.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Michelle Rector, Executive Director of Seniors in Service, a non-profit that engages over-55 volunteers in Northern Nevada communities with its Foster Grandparent Program, Senior Companion Program, and Respite Voucher Program.

Friday night’s Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights was a magical event filling the downtown with onlookers who wanted to witness one of Carson City's spectacular hometown events to usher in the holiday season. For many, the tree lighting has become a family tradition.

Carson City Empty Bowls Planning committee wants to express their gratitude to the community for coming out to the 9th Annual Empty Bowls event held this past Friday, December 1st, at the Carson Mall.

Throughout the year, the committee invites the community to join them at Ogres-Holm Pottery to learn how to create, glaze, and design ceramic bowls for the event.

He’s a nine-month-old large lad who has been with us since the beginning of October. He’s a good boy who’s a bit shy; however, he becomes very social once he spends a few minutes with someone and gets to know them a bit.

PBS Reno President and CEO Kurt Mische will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend the event which takes place on Tuesday, December 5, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

This Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, award winning country artist Lacy J. Dalton will be joining local songwriter, musician Canyon White for the Canyon Club radio show from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at A to Zen in Carson City.

The small hearted Mr. Grinch will once again try to hide his grinchy self as he plays little tricks on students singing their holiday songs heralding the advent of the holiday season.

He’ll be waiting in the wings as Santa (Tom Bragg) tries to steal the show when, on cue, that white-beard man clad in red comes down the capitol steps as the children sing “Here Comes Santa Claus.”

Beginning Saturday, Santa will make appearances over the next three weekends at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, which is hosting holiday train rides for families featuring the big man with the long beard, happily decked out in red.

Take nine 5th grade Carson City music teachers, add two invaluable State Buildings and Grounds crew, stir in the two Carson City Chamber staff, and you’ve got the basic recipe of what it takes to pull off the beloved holiday event known as Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

This upcoming Saturday, Dec. 2 at Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City will have Santa in the House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa loves everyone, so come share your wishes with him.

When local teacher and Carson High alumni Molly Otto attended The Price is Right showcase, she had no idea she’d be winning big. She attended with her fiancé and his parents, and was dreaming of scoring a honeymoon trip.
