Organizers exceed fundraising goal at Carson City's Empty Bowl project hosted by Ogres-Holm Pottery and FISH
Carson City Empty Bowls Planning committee wants to express their gratitude to the community for coming out to the 9th Annual Empty Bowls event held this past Friday, December 1st, at the Carson Mall.
Throughout the year, the committee invites the community to join them at Ogres-Holm Pottery to learn how to create, glaze, and design ceramic bowls for the event.
This year, the community helped surpass the 1,000-bowl goal by over 400 bowls. The Empty Bowl Planning Committee invited 20 local restaurants to serve a variety of soups at the event.
At the event, along with the bowl ticket purchase, there were raffle prizes, silent auctions, and 50/50 raffle to help in raising funds as well. With over 140 volunteers coming out to help, the event was proved to be successful.
This year, the fundraiser goal was set to $10,000. While the committee is still currently counting, the most recent count is over $12,000 with anticipation of the number growing after the final count. All the money raised will go to Friends in Service Helping (FISH) food programs to help fight food insecurities.
The Empty Bowls Carson City Project invites the community each year for a hot meal and have them pick out a unique handcrafted ceramic bowl to take home with them, to serve as a reminder that there are empty bowls out in the community.
The goal is to not only raise money for FISH food programs, but to also help raise awareness in the community as well. The committee is eager to start planning next year’s event and is excited to see everyone again next year.
