Nutrition Services with the Carson City School District is pleased to offer vending machines as part of their food distribution process. The effort is designed to help meet student needs and provide alternatives to waiting in lines.
WNC aviation program expands with new commercial pilot class, two new instructors

Western Nevada College is taking its aviation program to new heights with the introduction of Commercial Pilot (AV 250) for the Spring 2024 Semester, adding to its existing Private Pilot (AV 110) and Instrument Pilot (AV 210) classes.

Nevadans interested in training to become foster parents in rural Nevada have an opportunity to join a four-session virtual training beginning Jan. 20, 2024.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services is working to recruit and train foster families in Nevada’s 15 rural counties to support children in need.

Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division has identified a Sparks man who died in a single-vehicle crash that happened Friday, Jan. 12 on I-80 near the Gold Ranch Road exit in Washoe County.
Carson City deputies make arrests for DUIs, misuse of 911 and provoking an assault

A 30-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of provoking an assault after a witness showed deputies a video of her challenging a neighbor to a fight, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy shows growing enrollment as fifth class begins

The Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy — the voluntary youth education program sponsored by the Nevada National Guard and the state of Nevada for students who are not progressing academically in a timely manner — continues to show a steady uptick in cadet enrollment as it enters its fifth academic cycle since opening its doors two years ago.
Widespread prescribed fires continue at Lake Tahoe; smoke possible in surrounding areas

Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team members including North Lake Tahoe, North Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, Nevada Division of Forestry, and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, will continue prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. Smoke may be present throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding areas.

If you ask what some of the biggest issues caregivers and parents of small children are currently facing in the Silver State, there is one answer above all else: The lack of affordable childcare and preschool.
In our region alone, there are nearly 2,000 children under school age who don’t have access to affordable daycare according to the most recent Childcare Policy Report.
Carson City K-8 registration underway for Jr. Senator Cheer Camp, seniors for Mr. Carson High

The Carson High Cheer Team will host a Jr. Senator Cheer Camp Friday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in Senator Square at Carson High School in Carson City. At the conclusion of the camp, all participants will perform during halftime of the 7 p.m. varsity basketball game vs. McQueen High School.
Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks identity of suspect in storage facility burglary

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary at a storage facility located in the area of Highway 50 and Fairview that occurred August 31, 2023. Throughout the course of the investigation, photos of the suspect have been obtained.
