The holiday season is meant to be filled with joy, but for many families the Christmas spirit also brings added stress and anxiety. Statistics show over 30 percent of working families are making $60,000 annually or less for a family of four to live on in Nevada.
Victim identified in fatal Christmas residential structure fire in Dayton

A 73-year-old man died Christmas day in a residential structure fire in Dayton, according to the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District.
Rumors unfounded: Potential Texas Roadhouse steak restaurant in Carson City not on the books, for now

After the closure of the Buffalo Wild Wings in Carson City on Nov. 5, 2023, there have been widespread rumors of a Texas Roadhouse taking its place.
Unfortunately, there is no evidence that Texas Roadhouse or another business is moving into that space as of right now, according to Hope Sullivan, the Community Development Director for Carson City.
Religious volunteer sought for Carson City School District’s Family Life Advisory Committee

The Carson City School District is accepting volunteer applications to fill the religious vacancy on the district’s Family Life Advisory Committee. Appointment as a member of the committee shall be for an initial term of three (3) years.
DNA linked to skull identifies South Lake Tahoe woman missing since 1970

An identification has been made in the cold case investigation of a South Lake Tahoe woman who went missing in 1970. It has been 53 years since Donna Ann Lass was last seen alive while working at the then Sahara Tahoe.

Chief of Staff Ben Kieckhefer will be stepping down from his position early in 2024 after having helped guide a successful first year of the Lombardo administration, navigating the gubernatorial transition, office buildout, 2023 Legislative Session, and administration agenda development.
Carson City Health and Human Services cited by OSHA for potential chemical exposure, lack of necessary training

Since the 1980s, Carson City Health and Human Services has been undertaking mosquito abatement to stem the flow of potential mosquito-borne diseases.
However, it was determined that for many years — and possibly even decades — CCHHS hasn't had a Hazard Communication Plan, which is meant to provide proper training to employees on handling dangerous or toxic chemicals. Without training, this could mean that employees may have been exposed to dangerous chemicals as part of the abatement program.
Carson City arrests: Man booked for allegedly backhanding his wife, breaking her glasses

A 59-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery after he allegedly backhanded his wife, causing her glasses to break, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Who doesn’t like their home to be a comfortable temperature? I do! As I get older, I seem to like it warmer. That costs more money in the winter but saves in the summer. For others, it is the exact opposite, colder means less cost in the winter and more costs in the summer.
