Capital Ford in Carson City selects 5 deserving local families in need for holidays
The holiday season is meant to be filled with joy, but for many families the Christmas spirit also brings added stress and anxiety. Statistics show over 30 percent of working families are making $60,000 annually or less for a family of four to live on in Nevada.
With the high-housing market and overall cost of inflation, that doesn’t leave much room for extra expenses such as holiday gifts. Other families are facing the holiday season after the loss of loved ones or other personal hardships. With this in mind, the team at Dick Campagni’s Capital Ford, stepped in to help make a small difference during the season of giving.
“We love the holiday season, and everything it stands for: family, togetherness, celebration, and a fresh start. We knew we wanted to do something special this year to give back,” said Tim Milligan, General Manager of Capital Ford. “Asking the community to nominate the families, it really allowed us to help people who truly were deserving that we never would have known about otherwise.”
The auto dealer opened up nominations for the community to submit people they felt were deserving this holiday season. The team at Capital Ford wasn’t sure what to expect with it being the first time they’d tried a program like this, but the success was overwhelming. There were over 60 nominations, and many of the stories were heartwarming examples of the perseverance of our community members.
One nomination from a selected family read: “This holiday will be rough for this person, as she recently navigated a tragedy. Last month, she lost her adult daughter to a drunk driver, leaving her four kids behind. Throughout this pain, she has continued to work to help others battle addiction and is full of forgiveness. She and her grandchildren deserve a blessed holiday.”
In the end, the dealership was able to select five deserving families and provide them with some of their Christmas wishes, including gifts for them, their children, and even food for their families’ to have a holiday meal together.
“We saw a lot of touching stories come through in those nominations. It was hard to select only five, from all of the incredible families we learned about in our community. It just shows us how much bigger we can plan for next year,” said Milligan.
