Victim identified in fatal Christmas residential structure fire in Dayton
A 73-year-old man died Christmas day in a residential structure fire in Dayton, according to the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District.
The victim is identified as 73-year-old William Storrs of Dayton. Lyon County Sheriff’s Office notified the next of kin on scene and reports the cause of death is pending investigation.
At 7:06 pm on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, firefighters were called to the residential structure fire at 180 Railroad Street in Dayton.
Units from Stations 39 and 35 responded within approximately 6 minutes of the original 911 call and immediately performed rescue operations to extract an individual from within the residence, according to a news release from Lyon County.
Upon arrival, the structure was well involved in fire and resulted in extensive damages. Firefighters were able to locate and remove the victim from the structure. The victim was pronounced dead.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Nevada State Fire Marshal Division in partnership with investigators from the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District’s Prevention Office.
First responders acted swiftly and put forth an extraordinary effort to perform the rescue operation and extinguish the fire.
