Carson City Moose Lodge No. 2709 holds third annual chili cook-off

Carson City Moose Lodge No. 2709 held its third annual Chili Cook-off fundraiser at Kingsnake Brewing in Dayton on Saturday, Nov. 18. Eight chili chefs were in competition for the top honors that also involved a raffle for various prizes including bottles of wine, gourmet coffee, lapidary necklaces and gift cards.

Carson City school band director to be featured in Macy’s Thanksgiving parade

Nick Jacques grew up with a passion for music. Jacques, 36, said he first began to play the alto saxophone when he was in the fourth grade in Southern California, and continued playing music throughout middle school and high school. Jacques said it offered him an opportunity to bond with his music teachers and classmates.

Lyon County seeks public feedback on regional hazard mitigation plan

Beginning Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, Lyon County is requesting public comment and feedback on the draft 2023 Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, developed in coordination with the City of Fernley, City of Yerington, the four fire protection districts, Carson Water Subconservancy District, Walker River Irrigation District, and the Mason and Smith Valley Conservation Districts.

Heavenly ski resort at Tahoe to open Tuesday, Northstar follows Thursday; Kirkwood Dec. 1

After a slight delay due to warm weather that was followed up over the weekend with light snow showers and much cooler conditions, Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe announced it will be open for skiing Tuesday, Nov. 21, with Northstar California to follow Thanksgiving day. Kirkwood Mountain Resort is scheduled for Dec. 1, conditions permitting.
