My column is late this week. And, you know what? It’s OK. It’s OK because done is better than not at all. It’s OK because I can get out of my head long enough to forgive myself for how busy I have been. And, guess what else? It’s OK for you to just get things done too.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Writing from Mars," by artist Rick Parsons at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, February 2, 5-7pm. The exhibit will be in the gallery from February 2 – May 23, 2018.

Krysta Scripter, a 2011 CHS graduate, answered the Facebook message of her former Freshman Honors English teacher by returning to her alma mater as a guest speaker to share about how she went from wanting a career as a writer and photographer to being published in The Fresno Bee, Verily women’s magazine, Reno.com, and Babeswhohustle.com just to name a few.

Bacon, at Browsers Corner Book Store; he’ll be signing copies of his newest book and share some insight into the writing process. Carson City’s Leisure Hour Club begins the New Year with local author Brooke Santina, whose first novel "Dishrags to Dirtbags" tells the story of a meek housewife’s plunge into the often dangerous and mostly crazy world of law enforcement. The presentation will be at the Club’s dinner meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Sierra Lutheran High School, along with Carson High School and Douglas High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes, were fortunate this past week to receive a visit from Flora Savai, a young lady who grew up in the Mathare slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for felony suspicion of elder abuse, false imprisonment and preventing his 86-year-old grandmother from calling for help after deputies attempted to serve him a warrant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday night in the 1000 block of North Plaza Street for misdemeanor suspicion of being a drunken pedestrian in the roadway, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
