Carson City veteran named Nevada Veteran of the Month

Frank Reynolds of Carson City was selected by nomination for his work serving fellow veterans both in the community and statewide.

The winner of the Chili Cook Offs and the winner of the Salsa competition continue on to the National Cook Offs. People's Choice Chili Competition is open to everyone's voting. Chili sampling kits, raffle prizes, Military vehicles, Craft fair, and fun for all under the trees.
Aiming High: 2016 Carson City Airport Open House soars this Saturday

With well over 6,000 visitors attending last year, this year’s event is expected will be bigger with a bevy of activities including interactive displays, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, drone demonstrations, food and beverages, a bounce house and many family activities.
Remembering with Gratitude: Carson City veterans, volunteers place 1,400 flags at cemetery
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/27/2016 - 4:41pmVeterans organizations and volunteers from the Carson City area placed nearly 1,400 U.S. flags over memorial grave markers Friday afternoon at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Vietnam veterans groups, Fleet Reserve Association of Sierra Tahoe, the Disabled Veterans of America were joined by NJROTC, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Elks Lodge. In nearly 30 minutes, all the flags for the ceremony had been distributed and were placed over the markers.
Carson City Vet Council discusses changes at meeting

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and City Manager Nick Marano, both veterans, attended Wednesday's meeting and highlighted changes to the city's new, improved web site scheduled to go public by the end of May.

Special moments experienced on Honor Flight trip

As their Honor Flight Nevada flight landed in Baltimore, the 80 and 90-year-old men slowly make their wave off the plane, tired and worn from the trip. But the moment they step into the airport, that exhaustion is forgotten and replaced with an overwhelming sense of emotion.

While there, a television image suddenly came to mind of a Vietnam War veteran sitting alone at the counter of a cafe while a young boy and his mother paid attention to a uniformed service man who had just come in.
The scene was from a television spot paid for by moments.org, a production of the INSP network, entitled "Thank You For Your Service (A Moment of Truth)."

Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 04/02/2016 - 9:01pmNevada Vietnam War veterans were honored Saturday in Carson City as dozens gathered in Mills Park to observe the Vietnam Veterans Day of Remembrance and hold a welcome home ceremony at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial.
Frank Reynolds, current president of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) local chapter 388 in Carson City, opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance and the chapter’s chaplain delivered the invocation.

Carson City green zone charter adopted
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Thu, 02/18/2016 - 9:02amMembers of a community advisory panel met Wednesday to adopt a local charter for the state of Nevada's Green Zone Initiative, a statewide effort to bring veteran service providers and other community stakeholders together in a pooling of resources that would make access easier for the state's veteran population.
The panel approved making Carson City one of 10 community green zone councils across the state, calling its local initiative the Carson City Area Veterans Community Council (CCAVCC).

The half hour Ceremony is intended to honor those who served during the Vietnam War and came home while remembering those Brothers and Sisters who served, but never made it home.
The Ceremony will be followed by a “No-Host” Reception from 5:30-8:30 at the Gold Dust Hotel and Casino located at 2171 E William St, Carson City, NV 89701.

Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

Honor Flight Nevada takes first group of Vietnam Veterans to Washington, D.C.
Submitted by editor on Fri, 06/19/2015 - 7:28amHonor Flight Nevada's Vietnam Project, a plan that was nearly two years in the making, boarded more than 40 veterans of the Vietnam War and support staff on an airplane early Friday morning where they will spend the weekend in Washington, D.C.
Honor Flight takes veterans of World War II and the Korean War on all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C. Friday's group of veterans marks the first Nevada Honor Flight with veterans from the Vietnam War. The Veterans will visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifice.

It is a time when we join together for the family barbecue or simply enjoying the day - the peaceful and crisp mornings, the clear skies, the view of our mountains and the still snow covered peaks to our south, or indeed the smell of sagebrush and pine after a gentle rain.

The Carson Area Chapter 388 Vietnam Veterans of America is hosting the Vietnam Veterans Day “Welcome Home” celebration all day today at Mills Park. All veterans and the community are invited to come out to the park, view some of the exhibits, war-era vehicles, helicopters and equipment used during the war. Festivities and fellowship continue through 5:30 p.m.
